Project restoration 2 x X61 T7300 WWAN

#1 Post by Kingair » Sat May 16, 2020 5:13 pm

I bought my first X61 T7300 a few weeks ago and actually I really like this compact Thinkpad with a 4:3 screen
It's a mint example like we all love to find them
So I noticed these 2 WWAN versions earlier this week
They definitely need some love and care but I'll get them back in shape
First I was thinking to keep them as parts but gonna restore them
Finally its better to have 2 more X61 in fully functional condition than pieces all around doing nothing and collecting dust
SSD,
Some extra memory
BIOS upgrade
SXGA screen
Boost the CPU performance
This will keep me busy for a while

Good luck with the project. The X61 is a nifty little laptop. Indeed the last of its kind.

Appreciated !
As mentioned it are the WWAN models and haven't seen any yet
Guess with the upgrades these definitely will be resisting their age for a long time
At the moment I'm working on a project
I'll post more info once additional progress is made

Both X61 WWAN arrived and are in pretty good shape
Got one already running
I noticed the other one needs a new screen so I'll order a SXGA and where good to go
But it runs as well
Both came with 2x 2GB RAM
Did the BIOS upgrade in the meantime on the first one and installed a 250GB Samsung Evo
Love these X61

I hope you put on Middleton's BIOS. https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Middleton%27s_BIOS
He has a separate BIOS for X61 with SXGA+.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

I did but but the non-SXGA+ BIOS since I don't have my SXGA+ screen yet
