X61 stripped mPCIe screws

Hello,

A first post about my new X61, a worse intro than I would have hoped :?

I tried to remove the wifi card from mPCIe socket (the socket supprting mPCIe ?) and just stripped the screws.
Before destroying everything or putting metal chips everywhere, I'm asking for help on how to remove this card ?

On solution would be to break the corner of the card and all around the hole to get enough space to use a small plier to turn the screws. but If I can skip the destructive phase it may be better.

Any idea ?

Thanks a lot

Try dripping some WD40 into the screw pole, let it sit for a few minutes and see if that can loose up the Threadlocker on the screw

Is it just the stripped screws or did you break the screw holes that supports them on the bottom base ?

1- Stripped screws removal should be easy as it is wide open area once the palmrest is removed, use small long nose pliers to grip screws.
2- If the bottom holes are destoyed, use a small flathead screw driver under the screws forcing it towards you and use the long line pliers to prevent it turning empty.

Put a rubber band between the tip of your screwdriver and the screw
Or use superglue as mentioned above
BTW: did it happened on your X61 T9300 ?

Using rubber band and superglue are old wives' tales and absolutely useless.

Get a Dremel with a cutting disc like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/233584743986
Cut a small groove in the screw (not all the way through!).
Then use a straight screwdriver to remove the screw.
Make sure to tape off the surroundings to avoid metal dust flying into the laptop.

I worked with Edward (OP on linked topic) back in 2010 to remove the wifi card in his X61 using this. Back in 2010 I paid $19.99. More today but worth it for this issue.

The screws are soft aluminum with a very shallow head that is very easy to strip as you found out.

Worked nicely.
