X61/60 SXGA+ lcd backlight replace
X61/60 SXGA+ lcd backlight replace
I did the SXGA+ mod on my X61 and the results are beautiful. However, the back-light is noticeably dimmer than the back-light on the original XGA display was. Would I be able to simply swap the back-light from the original XGA display into the new SXGA+ display?
As a secondary question: it looks like the LED mod is no longer available. Does anyone know if it will become available again?

atagunov and I have been PMing about possibly reviving Xiphmont's old Daylight LED project, but so far, that's as far as we got. I tried to email Monty as well, but so far, haven't heard back.
I suppose I am trying to gauge interest. If there is enough, maybe we revive the project. It would need to be a collaborative effort (many hands make light work) as I don't have a ton of time to dedicate to it. But I would be willing to front the money to order parts / boards in quantity and help facilitate some things. Anyway, let me know what your level of interest really is.
Cheers,

I have recreated TLD3 driver boards with Xiphmont's design, and it is working on my X61. If anyone is interested, I could probably sell some boards on eBay. Note that, similar to the original TLD3, you will still need to know soldering and attach it to the old driver board to work.
Collections: ThinkPad 230CS, 235, 240, 240Z, 535E, 560E, 700C, 701C, 750C, 755C, 760XL, 800, S30, TransNote, T23, X23, X31, X32, X40, X41, X41T, T42, T43, T60, T61, X60, X61, X61T, X61s, X201, X301, T400, W500, T420, T430, X230, 5499 OnlineNote, PS/2 E, WorkPad Z50

...and I think here are some materials from our most respected friend "zephray" on the project: https://github.com/zephray/X61-Backlight-Mod Not that I even know which application is needed to open these types of fileszephray wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 7:52 pmI have recreated TLD3 driver boards with Xiphmont's design, and it is working on my X61. Unfortunately no. The PCB fab I contacted refused to manufacture these kind of extremely narrow PCBs for me.axur-delmeria wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 9:27 pmWould you also sell the LED strips?zephray wrote: ↑Thu Mar 04, 2021 7:52 pmI have recreated TLD3 driver boards with Xiphmont's design, and it is working on my X61. Re: X61/60 SXGA+ lcd backlight replace
Yes if you are familiar with the original Xiphmont materials / research, sourcing the correct (color, etc.) LEDs was actually a big part of the problem.
My thought was to unify all the information which is scattered here and there into one place, and update it to currently available parts sources (and keep those updated over time) along with some (hopefully not too difficult) instructions.
Alas, I have not really much time for such a project at the moment.
But this is always the problem with any project. So my other thought was to make it all F/LOSS, so that several of us who are interested could all pitch in on maintaining the info, ideally turning it into a case of "many hands make light work."
