X60 fails to boot XP
Thinkpad X60, XP home, 2GB RAM, type 1707-CTO.
It's been sat without a battery since the last boot up which was a couple months ago. Put a charged battery in, pressed button and after the Thinkpad name screen appears a white on black message then reads;
We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. And then a list of possible reasons and options are shown.
I've tried all the boot options and none work. When any options are selected a blue screen with a message in white lettering appears for a couple seconds;
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
It's stuck in a boot loop failure.
I've checked the BIOS and tested the HDD (40 GB), It is ok. Took out the RAM and it gave the 1-3-3-1 beeps. On the first startup the time needed re-setting. Does it need a new c-mos battery ? Do I need a recovery disk ? I don't have the factory discs only a full copy of Win XP pro on disc that was for another machine.
What next ?

Re: X60 fails to boot XP
At the bottom of this blue screen there should be 'technical information' section that has a hex code associated with your problem and possibly the name of a file that's causing the error. You'll need that information if you want to track down the cause of the problem.Thinkthonk wrote: ↑Thu Sep 16, 2021 10:55 amI've tried all the boot options and none work. Re: X60 fails to boot XP
At the bottom of the blue screen the code is;
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF79E4528,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
I had to take a video and pause it at the blue screen.
Thanks.

Re: X60 fails to boot XP
Solved.
Found an old post on toms hardware;
The problem is usually cause by AHCI/RAID mode of SATA controller. Enter BIOS art startup, go to "Integrated Periferals" or something similar where you can find the "SATA Mode" option and change it from AHCI to ATA or IDE or what looks like that.
So in BIOS changed from AHCI to compatibility mode and it started first time.

Re: X60 fails to boot XP
you should change from "AHCI" tp "Compatibility" in the section for SATA/ATA in BIOS, that should solve problem.
