Is there any reason why the x60 (or its docking station) does not have a dvi port? Otherwise it would be perfect notebook.

Probably too little demand for such a feature. People usually buy ultraportable laptops because they are, well, ultraportable. If you connect an external DVI display to them, they are no longer very portable...

Sure one could use it at its desk... and then a Dvi port could be quite handy... but that’s just me saying...


I would like a DVI option.. if not on the laptop (not so much DVI Beamers arround here anyway) then on the dock, but none at all is just crazy.

Personally, I think not including a DVI port is the worst thing they could have done with the X60 series. I think we are at a point where almost all new displays come with DVI, which would be necessary for high resolution displays. In addition, if you do need to use the regular analog input, you can use a cheap adapter (I have like 3 lying around in my house).

It is true that connecting the X60 to an external DVI display wouldn't make it very portable anymore, but the same logic applies to connecting it through analog! I can easily see many people (especially businessmen) benefiting from DVI so that they can connect it to high resolution displays for presentations. I'm waiting for the X60T, so maybe they will include DVI with that

there was no DVI put in due to the physical size of the connector, i spoke with Jeff Samitt about this and he said they tried to attempt to get one in, but both the planar board and the body itself lacked the room for the larger DVI connection

Then at least the 6x Ultrabase should have a dvi port!

Either way, it wouldn't be a large leap for them to put in DVI; as ar as I know, but the Video Card and the System Board should have the hardware on it needed for DVI, the rest is just the physical connector. This is much like on the Dock II. Also, as to why I suspect the Hardware is already there, someone said that they looked through all the devices on their T Series Thinkpad on Linux and discovered they had the hardware for a Firewire port; just no port on the chassis.

This is what I was afraid of hearing. I had a feeling that was the problem.

How is the quality of the analog VGA port of the x-series models? I intend to use a 19 inch display.

Does anybody of the new proud x60/s owners connected the notebook to an external display?

How is the picture quality with the vga port?

I connected my X60 ultrabase to my Dell 1905FP monitor.

The display was clean and sharp. It was comparible to DVI over the short distance.

I really agree that the dock SHOULD have a DVI connector, and ship with an analog adapter for the mere mortals who have not gone digital.
The IBM/Lenovo monitors have DVI after all.

I agree that the laptop itself should not need DVI.
However, the is no reason not to put this on the ultrabase.
The T series do this, and there appears to be plenty of "space" on the ultrabase (the audio adapters have an extra half inch of space.)

Oh well, it is what it is.

I would say that the standard 6' for a monitor cable qualifies.
Beyond this you would start needing to use higher and higher quality cables.

So I will replace my T43 with a dvi connection to an external display by a x60 with a vga connection...
