Okay, so Rexy (the other Nick) raised a couple of questions that made me think...

What do people think are the practical differences between the X60 and the X60s.

Here is my list of differences..
X60s uses the L2400 series chips; low power.
X60s battery life is 10% longer.
X60s is 10% lighter.
X60s is slightly thinner at the front.

Differences that may or may not make a difference.
X60 has 7200rpm drives - but none are listed with this option yet*
X60s has Ultralight panel - but none are listed with this option yet.

It would appear that the only real difference between these laptops is the size, weight & performance.
But that these differences are marginal at best.

What does everyone else think.
What version did you pick and why?

I think you summed up the differences pretty well. X60s is slightly lighter, slightly thinner, has slightly lower power consumption. I ordered an X60s (170469U) because every ounce counts to me and getting those extra few minutes of battery power is also important to me.

Of course, if I cut down on steak for a week, I might be able to loose those few ounces myself. :D

I'm switching from 15" T43 to a X-series, so why not choose the thinnest and the lightest model? Going from the largest to the smallest form factor is exactly what I'm after.

To me, X60 is not attractive at all. X60 will emit more heat, consumes more battery, thicker, heavier, etc - all those that you do not want on such a small portable laptop.

I will be very happy with the dual core 1.66GHz CPU which runs cooler and lasts longer (battery time). I can take X60s wherever I want, and use whenever I want.

X60s seems to make the most sense to me.

I've choosen the X60. As long as I never have a real comparision to a X60s it's light enough for me. I could purchase the X60 with the 8 cell battery for the same prize than the X60s with the 4 cell battery. So the decision was quiet easy for me. :D

If find it interesting that not one post mentions the fact that the fan on the X60 will most likely be louder since the difference in weight and thickness is attributable to the difference in processor heat and therefore the ventilation systems.

but wouldn't the thicker back end allow for better ventilation and thus make the fans engage less often?
