Does anyone have a 1GB memory(not Lenovo) information which has been verified "operational and stable" in X60s(and/or X60)? Cheaper is better.
How about Crucial? Kingston?

Crucial has it, at $189. It's not listed in their "memory configurator" but the rep on live chat promised me the following would work:

...so I bought it, and he was right. works perfectly.

I recently upgraded my X60s with 2x Corsair VS1GSDS667D2 1GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 Value Select SO-DIMM Memory. Works great! and super fast. Here is a link you can check to see which memory module is the best. I personally would go with either Patriot or Corsair, but there are many out there that are good. I got both of them for the price of 1GB memory module from IBM's website. Just check out this site:

Thank you for reply!
Crucial always provides good memory, high performance ,but a bit expensive.
Corsair VS1GSDS667D2 is cheaper than I expected .Good price!.
I will try it,maybe.

I'm in the same boat with BlackboxX, also picked up two VS1GSDS667D2.
Even though I heard alot people saying that stay away from the Value Select menory product, but it works fine with my X60s, haven't have any problem at all, the price is decent too!

Question -- if I have one module that is Crucial, and one in the other slot that is Corsair, is that any kind of problem?

Hey Edbern, I think it should work but to be on the safe side it would probably be better that you get 2 of the same kind by the same manufacturer. [/img]
I don't know where I read or heard this, but is it true you have to install module in pairs?

Only if you want them to run dual channel, or for the better compatibility.
Other then that, it should works just fine.

Can the X60s run in dual channel?
The configuration I'm getting comes with 512MB and I'm planning to add a 1GB stick.
Will I have a significant performance increase if I replace the std 512 stick with two matched 1GB sticks?
Dual channel memory

I haven't heard back from anyone so I surmise this is not a well-understood feature of ThinkPads. On the web, I learned that DDR can typically boost performance by 10% (performance of what?). I also learned that by not pairing the DIMMs, DDR is automatically disabled (see below). No one has commented whether X60s will enable DDR if you use paired DIMMs or given an impression or statistics on the performance boost.
---
The majority of systems supporting dual-channel memory can be configured in either single-channel or dual-channel memory mode. The fact that a motherboard supports dual-channel DDR memory, does not guarantee that installed DIMMs will be utilised in dual-channel mode. It is not sufficient to just plug multiple memory modules into their sockets to get dual-channel memory operation – users need to follow specific rules when adding memory modules to ensure that they get dual-channel memory performance. Intel specifies that motherboards should default to single-channel mode in the event of any of these being violated:
DIMMs must be installed in pairs
Both DIMMs must use the same density memory chips
Both DIMMs must use the same DRAM bus width
Both DIMMs must be either single-sided or dual-sided.

currently, i have only 512MB in my X60 and looking to add more RAM. I do not want to remove my current 512MB and also not looking to add 2GB RAM. Just want to fill the empty slot with either 512MB or 1G RAM, which would better option for better performance add another 512MB RAM or 1GB RAM...??

The x60s will automatically enable DDR in dual mode if two of the same dimms are detect in the slots. If one DDR such as a 5300 and another such as a 4200 were inserted, you will NOT get 5300 perfermonce. Instead, you will actually get worse performance (around 4300). I know this since lenovo sent the wrong free 512MB for my x60s.
From my experience, it is better to have the same size, freq, and preferably manufacturer. Depending on bios, a notebook will detect and enable the ability for DDR dual. Thinkpads bios afaik from the x-series do it automatically.
Also, when defining performance, it will depend on what type of performance you which to define. This definition will vary greatly by the users. For games? Desktop related tasks? etc etc.
