Hi there,

i will purchase an x60 in next weeks, and i wonder if the recovery image i have on my x40 (with acronis) will work on x60? i know will copy the image with no pb, but there will be totally dif mb,cpu, video card, wifi etc, and will start installing the drivers for them.

will this affect the stability/perf of the new x60? on desktops , last time i tried that (w2k) was a totally pain in the [censored]...but i'd really do anything for not having to spend a whole day installing and configuring all programs i use...i know migration assistant might be an option but there i go again in installing all programs i use, a recovery with current image would be heaven!

thanks,

dorin

I am guessing that it will affect the X60 performance significantly as well as the stability. I don't know what else they put on the preload for the X60 on top of what they already had for the X4X Series. The biggest difference is probably the drivers and then certain applications. Whatever you do, I would first make an image/recovery set of the factory preload that comes with the X60. :)

More than likely this will not work. You will probably get a blue screen on bootup. The X40 is a PATA system and the X60 uses SATA for its hard drive. If you do make it into Windows, none of the drivers for the X40 will work on the X60, as the core chipset is different along with most of the other components as well.....

I would probably just do a clean install of the OS, use Software Installer to update drivers to current levels and then use the SMA (System Migration Assistant) program from IBM/Lenovo to move data from X40 to new X60. Or, there are other programs that will let you migrate your data over to the new system as well (One by Computer Associates, the name of which escapes me at the moment)......
