Slim-line battery?
Slim-line battery?
Does anyone have any experience with the slim-line battery on the X60s thinkpad? I currently have both the normal 4-cell and 8-cell, and the extra bump on the machine on the normal 4-cell _really_ bugs me: I find it to be aesthetically ugly, and also makes the machine much more unwieldy to handle. I want the flush bottom of the machine like on the X40/X41.
Thus, I was thinking of ordering the slim-line battery, but before I drop over a hundred bucks on yet another battery, wanted to get people's experiences on them. How much of a battery life hit compared to the normal 4-cell will this be? And more importantly, does the slim-line battery actually sit flush with the bottom of the machine?

Slim Battery.
I ordered a Slim 4 Cell, when I ordered my ThinkPad (170463U), so it can be within the footprint of the machine ( which it is) It does not extend at all.
I use it as my main battery, with the enhanced 4 cell as my back-up.
The avg life of it for me is about 3 hours. (EVDO, screen up high)
You will see about a 25% reduction as oppossed to the enhanced four cell.
I love it, my one small dislike is that it has a slightly different finsh than the rest of the laptop. The laptop's finsh being mattish and the battery's finsh being more glossy. Not certain why they made it that way, but it does have a diiferent finsh look to it.
Hope this helps, Nick.

Re: Slim-line battery?
Does the 8-cell battery also have that bump? I too prefer a laptop that sits flat on the table. That bump that I seem to see in the photos worries me. I'd like a new X, but I don't want a laptop that doesn't sit flat, and hence I'm in a quandery.mroth wrote:... and the extra bump on the machine on the normal 4-cell _really_ bugs me:

I think you can just stick with your normal 4-cell. I agree with you on the 8-cell part. It is just too ugly and huge to defeat the whole purpose of getting an X60s.
However I think the extended 4-cell is OK. Yes comparing to the slim-line, it has two more humps on the bottom. But for the extra 0.13 lb, you get has 30% more capacity (2 vs 2.6)!
