Any chance for oblivion?

#1 Post by Siddsartre » Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:10 pm

I know I'm pushing my luck here, but I'm still curious. Does anyone think that it will be at all possible to play "Elder Scrolls: Oblivion" on the x60s? It's a one in a million shot, but maybe someone out there has somehow managed it. Just curious...I'll probably end up buying an xbox 360 anyways as I'll need something to game on...er, study with in college.

Given the insane graphical requirements of that game, even if it's possible, it probably wouldn't be very enjoyable.

I know...but there's some odd part of me that is obsessed with pushing my hardware to the limits...like when I would emulate psx games on my pda back in the day. Playing at 3 fps is never enjoyable...but it's a testament to my inner geek to tough it out.

I just tried Oblivion on my X60s (both arrived today!). Unfortunately, the game just crashed on startup. Will experiment a bit with the .ini file, but I don't have very high hopes.

On the other hand, Civilization IV works wonderfully, even though it is not the same as playing on my 24" monitor...

Dell Latitude X200 (933Mhz, 640MB) - Once wonderful, now doing kitchen service :-)
Dell Ultrasharp 2405FPW - gotta love it!

Civ IV works? Excellent, I was distinctly worried I'd have to give up my habit. Nothing like a civ game to make the daily commute go faster!

It's on Intel's "officially not working" list for the 950 graphics card, so I was fearing the worst...

There are some tips on optimizing Oblivion here: http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/article.asp ... =36222&p=1

The second half of the article discusses changes to the video settings and the .ini to make it run a little better on sub-optimal hardware (though for that game "optimal" hardware may not exist yet.. Geesh..).

Best of luck. I haven't tried it on my X60 yet (Duo processor, 2gb RAM) but even on my Z60m w/ 128mb ATI x600 and 1gb RAM, it still defaults to 640x480 (though I changed that to the widescreen counterpart and it works fine).
