Ultrabase & USB DVD-R Questions

I'm thinking about getting a X60, but with the lack of an optical drive, it may make it difficult to use some programs that need the cd in the drive. One application I will be using the X60 for (not very often) is to run my car's diagnostic programs and to read my car's service manual. The service manual requires the cd in the drive and the diagnostic program uses a serial port. The ultrabase seems like the perfect solution for this application. I maybe able to use DAEMON tools to mount a CD image, but I think the CD is copy protected.

Can someone post some pics of the X60 while docked in the ultrabase (especially pictures that show a profile view)? I thought I remember reading they're 1.8" high while docked together, but I can't find that article.

Any recommendations for a self powered USB DVD burner? It doesn't look like Lenovo sells any, but I saw a LaCie USB powered slim drive for $180. Any others?

Thank you!

I just looked at the Lenovo webpage under:

Products > Accessoires & upgrades > Storage

There are a few external, usb-powered optical drives, e.g. this one:

Model name 40Y8637
Description ThinkPlus USB 2.0 CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II Drive
Web Price* $199.00

http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/store ... 8425143592

Model name 40Y8638
Description Lenovo USB 2.0 Super Multi-Burner Drive (Americas & Japan)
Web Price* $299.00

They look really small on the pictures, I'd like to get one of those myself. You should be okay with getting one of those drives for running your car program without a docking station.

I have a dvd burner in mine

The LaCie slim DVD Burner seems quite popular.
