x60 v. x60s: How much more heat are we talking about?

Everyone keeps saying x60 is going to emit more heat than x60s since it runs on a higher voltage. How much more heat?

I think the heat difference is minimal.
When you see the specs of the machines:
x60 with 8 cell battery:7.8 hour
x60s with 8 cell battery 8 hour.
The difference is only 2.5% (I think the processor is the only main difference)(this is with speedstep, without speedstep the difference can be bigger)

(the processors has a thermal design package (tdp). T2400 is 25W, L2300 is 15w. This is what the processors can dissipate as heat. Not a small difference, but in my opinion this is the worst case. The dual core processors in a notebook never goes full throttle for hours. If the speedstep is active, the difference is smaller too.)

check the Intel Spec more carefully
the two CPU only differ in FULL-Power mode,
almost the same when they are Idle

So when you set the T2400 to run always on 1GHz......
You have more than enough computing power...

I've compiled an entire linux distribution with my new X60 and not noticed processor temps to be any real concern. The atheros wifi card, however gets pretty hot, don't know if it's the same card in the X60s.

I would have to disagree. I bought both a X60s and a X60 and the X60 was much louder than the X60s. The fan on the X60 seemed to work more than the X60s. This is when both are idle, so when running at 0.95v each.

Don't get me wrong, the X60 is nothing close to "loud". Just if you asked me to compare the two, this would be my response. The X60s is silent, and doesn't emit as much heat. The X60 has more noise and you can physically feel the fan blowing air out most of the time.

it is just my guess for X60 and X60s
For CPU in Idle, there is almost no difference between L2300
and T2400
however, although there is no socket for X60 to upgrade CPU directly, I believe the structure of X60 aims to more powerful CPU such as merom or T2500/2600, that means the capability of fan and the whole heat dispatching are different from X60S--which is for very very ultra-light. I do not know if anyone has checked the FRU of fans using in X60/X60S, are they the same ? At least the heat sinks of CPU and chipset are different.

On the other hand, if you look at the Intel roadmap, the Lxxxx CPU will not be updated until next year, and Txxxx (Merom) is on the way in maybe 2 quarters later, consequently, I guess maybe we will see a little modification in Santa Rosa platform in X-series design.
