Slimline X60 battery fit problem

Hello,

I just bought an X60 (170997U). Happy with it so far, except for one little issue.

I subsequently bought a slim-line 4 cell battery (from Lenovo), part 40Y6999.

It doesn't fit. It is the right shape generally, but too wide.

Did they ship me the wrong part? I can't find a part number on the battery, so it is hard to verify. The packing material indicates that it is 40Y6999 as expected.

The battery is about 177 mm wide (longest dimension). The dimensions match the description of 40Y6999, for example at:

But, the space on the bottom of my X60 (and the battery that came with the computer) is only about 164 mm wide.

So, I'm baffled. Can somebody tell me what's going on here?

thanks,
barfo

I may have read somewhere that the slimline is for the X60s only, and the normal 4-cell and 8-cell batteries are for the X60? And that the normal-size batteries, as shipped from the factory, require a slight modification to fit in the X60s? Someone else could back me up on this one...

Having had both a X60 and X60s. I am 100% sure the slimline doesn't fit in the X60. In the same sense the X60's enhanced doesn't fit in the X60s. The X60 is missing a bottom rubber foot, the battery takes care of that. The X60s though has both bottom feet and the battery is just a block.

Part Number: 40Y6999
Description: ThinkPad X60 Series 4 Cell Slim Line Battery

That's quite a misleading description.
