I finally decided to get a new X60s machine.
I got the 1704-4DU model.
What a machine: fast, light, sturdy, and it just works.
I am currently typing this message on it and I have some pictures that I will post on site later on.
For all of you, who give their opinions on the X60, thank you

You made my decision to buy one easier.
So far, so good and no dead pixels.

Thanks.
I received my extra gif of RAM today so I'm running 1.5 GB. Quite a difference.
BTW, some your comments of the X60s pushed me in the right direction to get my new laptop
I'm ejoying the laptop, but I do find the right hand side a bit too warm for my taste. However, I think I can live with it.
I have noticed that it runs warmer on AC power. These are my TPFancontrol readings:
CPU 43°C (0x78)
APS 48°C (0x79)
GPU 41°C (0x7b)
BAT 33°C (0x7c)
BAT 31°C (0x7e)
BUS 41°C (0xc0)
PCI 38°C (0xc1)
I read that your computer runs cooler than this. What is your current AC power set up? I.e., dynamic switching, etc.
Thanks again...

Because I was curious, as there has been so much discussed on this forum about temps, I decided to do some very specific measuring of the temps on the other X60 / X60s machines in my office. I supply (my company) the ThinkPads to the employees based on their needs. So we have T series and X series in the organization. Currently we now have a quantity of 16, X60 series deployed.
I checked 10 of them and the results were well within an acceptable range. As it so happens mine is the coolest, however the average of the test group display temps in the same range as your computer. So I would not be concerned.
From my perspective the X60 is the pinnacle of miniaturization and functionaliy. Considering that it's normal for the computer to generate heat that must be dissipated, I personally do not mind feeling some heat from the computers case. Also when we take into consideration just how small this machine is, I think heat management has been very effectively addressed by the engineers.
Finally before deploying the X60's , we were using the X4xx series with great success and long term reliability. Not a single failure, a remarkable statistic.

If armrest temp is annoying you too much and you don't need WLAN at the moment just disable wireless with the hardware switch in front of the machine.
Done so you can watch APS temp going down to ~ 40°C.

Good Point!
I'm in the habit of turning off the wireless whenever I an not using it and forgot to mention that. Which is even easier now that the new models have the switch on the front edge of the computer.

I have the following numbers from tpfancontrol:
CPU 43°C (0x78)
APS 47°C (0x79)
GPU 42°C (0x7b)
BAT 33°C (0x7c)
BAT 31°C (0x7e)
BUS 40°C (0xc0)
PCI 39°C (0xc1)
I got this numbers with th wireless off and in the process of charging the battery.

The link to the thread is in my sig, simply go to the Thinkpad Utilities Forum and follow the link to SourceForge.
Better yet, here it is
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... _id=153962
It is not part of ThinkVantage nor is it supplied by IBM/Lenovo; it was made by forum user Shimodax.
