I hope this tip will help some of the X60/s users who are being annoyed at the high-pitched noise. However, I'm not sure how much difference will this configuration make in the battery life.

1. Turn on your X60/s. And press F1 when the ThinkPad logo shows up on the screen to enter the BIOS setup.

2. Select Configuration => Power => CPU => CPU Power Management

3. Change the status of CPU Power Manaement from "Automatic" to "Disable."

4. Save and Exit.

5. Reboot.

6. Then you'll no longer hear the high-pitched noise.

To my taste that is bad remedy.
You will have to deal with heat and low battery life.

Interesting fact is, that oviously only some X60s show that kind of noise.
When idle I can hear just the hardrive spinning.

as we did some test the high pitch noise is present when you have one USB mouse device connected, and will gone if you attach a second usb device like an usb pendrive or HDD

So the workaround carry a pendrive in your pocket until IBM/lenovo fixes it (but tell you the truth they did not reply my email )

I believe Lenovo released a bios fix for this a few days ago. For some reason, the update utility has missed quite a few updates that you can find on the web.
