x60 for everyday use without extra screen?
Hey! My first post here and straight a question to you pros!
Anybody of you using the x60s as exclusive everyday notebook? Is the screen size and brightness convenient for long office sessions too? Being a business student I need a small, powerfull and affordabel (www.nofost.de) notebook with no additional spendings on external screen etc.. Please tell me if I will go crooked and blind with it, or everything will be fine... Thanks! I really want it!

I'm really happy with mine and I use it for very long periods of nonstop computing. I have been in front of it for 5 to 6 hours straight, no problem. The keyboard is absolutely outstanding, the display is bright and clear, and since I upgraded it to 1.5 GB ram it's quite fast.peterpeter wrote:Anybody of you using the x60s as exclusive everyday notebook? I would highly suggest this computer to you.

No mine is not the UL. However we have a couple of the UL Models in the office and personally I prefer mine.peterpeter wrote:thank you guys for answering! @archer6 - isn't that the "ultralight" model I see in your specs? I don't really need an internal optical drive, but the screen has to be outside capable and there seems to be no real way to get an UL in europe...
When I install the 4 cell regular battery it only weighs 2.6 lbs according to a very acccurate scale I have. Then a bit more when I switch to the enhanced 4 cell battery.

Wow! That's a tough questionBrave_turtle wrote:A question for archer since you have both X60s and T60. If you only had 1 to choose which one would you choose? X60s or T60?
I do design work, AutoCAD, modeling and rendering, spacial work, etc. plus a lot of digital video editing & photoshop work. Then of course there is the normal office/outlook/web research, in addition to a huge database. For work it's definitely the T60, and that's temporary because I've got a T60P on order that I've been waiting 90 days for at this point. I have always used a Txx p model for my work, because I travel a lot, so a ThinkPad has always been my main computer.
That said, this is the first X series I've owned and I just cannot say enough good things about this amazing computer. Prior to the X series I had tried the small SRX Sony, and a variety of other ultralights and they just did not cut it.
If I did not require a very powerful resource laden laptop, with a large high res display, I would probably choose the X60s for my everyday laptop.
Hope this helps...

Think there will be some tax issues with euclid. But whats the page, didn't find it? ....by the way, that was really THE question (t60/x60s)
@archer6
You don't give me a choice! I have to order, but what configurations? Any reasonable product ID sugested? Ultra base or usb-drive?
Thank you!

On the Euclid Site they have specifications for the various ThinkPad models.
Also if you tell me what your using it for I could suggest a product ID.
I use a usb-drive mainly for loading software. I personally do not have a need for the Ultra Base, however you might. Especially if you want to connect it to a larger monitor and printer when you are using it at home, or in your office.

Hi Peter,
Even if you buy from a regular store you will have to pay taxes anyways. What's tricky is not the taxes but brokerage fees. I don't know how they calculate Brokerage fees but it seems to be really random.
I didnt pay much brokerage fees, because I sent it throught Fedex Express. Depending on where you live (I live in Canada), USPS is the cheapest and UPS charge you the highest brokerage fees. Hope it helped.
I should receive my X60s tommorrow! I felt in love with it by using my friends X60s UL.

Do you have it already, brave_turtle? How does it "feel"?
Going to order one now. Euclid just sent me their fees...145 USD with FedExInt. Even so its all in all cheaper than in Austria (comparable model, NO UL)
But I will have to get an extra HDD (Hitachi 7k100) and some 1024RAM! Does anybody know something about Hitachi HDDs. In my opinion they are comparatively cheap and seem to have good quality though - just read a review. I'm searching a fast and silent one - does it perform???
Moreover, what about installing an HDD? Does Lenovo's (IBM's
) whole security matters still work with a new one? Is it easy? What about warranty then?

Are you saying that you prefer an X60s non-UL to an X60s UL? Or am I misunderstanding you? If that is what you are saying, could you tell me why? I wasn't aware of any downsides.archer6 wrote:No mine is not the UL. However we have a couple of the UL Models in the office and personally I prefer mine.

In the office we put 3 non-UL models side by side for starters. The level of clarity and display brightness was the same exactly, an impressive comparison. I find the X60s has a very bright and clear display.trentblase wrote: Are you saying that you prefer an X60s non-UL to an X60s UL? Or am I misunderstanding you? Then our UL's arrived. I set one up and put it next to my X60s (non-UL). The difference was in the higher level of brightness from the UL. However, in turn the clarity suffers just a bit and it has a slightly washed out look, from the higher level of illumination. Not a lot but enough to bother me because of the type of work I do. Just to be sure that it was not that one UL, I put it next to the other 4 and they were all the same.
The level of brightness from the regular (non-UL) X60s is quite high. An example of this is when I'm working at home at night in low light, I find the display so bright that I turn it down 2 -3 bars.
Another very important fact to know is that I have exceptionally good vision, and therefore I tend to notice things that the average user would not.
So, I'm not saying anything bad about the UL. It's a fantastic computer, just not my preference.

Wow, thanks for the illuminating info about UL vs. standard screens. I do not think I've read any reviews that illustrate the difference in this way. Since I was unable to obtain a UL when I got my x60s, I had been feeling like I was missing out. Now I'm not so sure I am, considering that color rendition is important to me.

Based on my experience with these two types of displays and your statement regarding the importance of color rendition, I am happy to assure you that the model you have is the perfect computer for your application...trentblase wrote:Wow, thanks for the illuminating info about UL vs. standard screens.
