I googled for "X61 tablet" and found some bad news.

The other option is for a small, very lightweight (2.9 lbs) Tablet PC, the Lenovo X61. This option combines portability with innovative features that allow the ThinkPad to be converted into a pen‐enabled writing tablet. Further details about the Tablet are available on our Web site at [wfu intranet site?] http://techtalk.wfu.edu/faculty. For ordering purposes, you must make your decision by May 31.

Faculty members who choose the T60 ThinkPad will receive the new computer during the regular exchange process during the summer. Faculty members who choose the X61 Tablet PC will continue to use their current ThinkPad throughout the fall and exchange it for the Tablet in January, 2007. The new model Tablet will not be released by Lenovo until late 2006. We are choosing to wait for the newer model because the performance of the current model Tablet PC is not comparable to that of the T60.

ETA: looks like the model number is X60 instead: http://www.wfu.edu/technology/reference ... index.html

It seems to be true. I guess Lenovo is waiting to ship it with the new Vista Tablet/Outlook/Onenote?

I don't think so, the final Vista build and release is still a long ways off (2007/2008) and IBM/Lenovo seem to have plans to get this out far quicker than that. :)

In other words, it looks like we can expect a pretty awesome tnext-gen tablet. :)

The estimated RTM date for Vista is late 2006 as of now. Maybe M$ will push it back to 2007/2008 again, lol :D

The most recently delay, or hint rather, has let it slip that there will be a slip. ;) :)

At this point, I would trust Ballmer and Gartner more than any more "announced" ship dates from Microsoft.

I don't know. I could care less if it had Vista or XP. I just want a SXGA+ 12.1" screen.

Perhaps in June/July we'll see an announcement. I would like to get my hands on one of those by september.

I agree that they should try to get it out by the back-to-school season. But I personally am very happy with XGA on a 12.1" screen. D*mn, I am still waiting for my x60s, have been waited for 10 weeks already. Poor me... :((

Yes well, I'm not sure if I'd like XGA on a 12.1" screen or not. My first laptop I had a 14.1" XGA screen, hated it, bought a T42 with a SXGA screen and I love it. So I'm not sure how I'd feel about the 12.1" XGA. I just hate getting locked into something and being stuck if I don't like it.
