Faster Processor

#1 Post by First Light » Wed Jun 07, 2006 12:01 pm

A couple of months ago someone mentioned a faster dual core processor for the X60 series due to be available sometime in the third quarter. Any more current information?

Not that I'm aware of currently.

Faster is always welcome but not at the expense of heat, noise or power consumption!

Re: faster processor. Maybe The Merom Chip?

#5 Post by rexy » Wed Jun 07, 2006 9:40 pm

I heard that the new Intel Merom chips ( coming out in July)
that are faster, lower in power, and 64 bit were going to be in the next model of the X60 series.
And I also read some where that it might be possible to switch out
our current C.P.U. and replace it with a Merom (out of warrenty,of course) since the current Chip is not soldered in.
It would be great to have the next gen 64 bit chips in our T.P.'s

If it can be easily done, it may be much cheaper than having to buy a brand new T.P.

Did I read correctly? Am I right on this?

Yup, there was a discussion in the T6X Series Forum awhile ago about dropping in a Merom CPU instead of the Yonah; turns out that it should work.

Then again, they are already planning to come out with an X61 Tablet, why not wait for the X61s to come out?

I heard something about an August release date for Merom, not July.

Just found a note that I kept from several months ago when I read about the X60's pending processor speed increase. Here in essense is what it said:

"In the 3rd quarter 06 the L chip goes to 1.83 Ghz, and the T goes to 2.33 Ghz."

The word Merom was not mentioned at that time, but I assume this would be the Merom chip?
