x60s system beeping volume

hey everybody, i just received my new x60s 1704-4du from UPS yesterday and have been enjoying breaking the new computer in since. I had to let go of my t42 2373 dxu, however my initial impressions of the x60s are mostly all great. The form factor is the highest selling point and this is something new to me since this is my first ultraportable. the right palm rest is definitely warm as most people on the forum have noted. when i first started the system, the initial APS reading was 51, however, ive found that it has stabilized to around 44 to 46 or so after a few restarts and what not. i keep the wireless settings on low now (highest power saving mode). one thing that im not satisfied about is the battery life. with the enhanced 4 cell battery, wireless setting on low, and with lcd brightness on 6 out of 7, i only seem to be getting 2 hours and 40 minutes which i think is on the low side.
however, my main question is if there was a way to adjust the volume of the system notification beeps, for example, the beep that the comp makes when you unplug the ac adapater, return from standby, or if you type too many keys at one time causing an error, etc. That beeping noise seems to be significantly louder to me with respect to the volume of media files i play which are controlled by the normal volume controls. i checked the bios but couldnt find anything pertinent.
also, does anybody know if lenovo's 30 day price protection policy that people have mentioned around the forum would include rebates? apparently lenovo has just begun a 200$ rebate promotion for x60s puchased in the month of june and unfortunately i purchased mine the last week of may however i just received it yesterday. i was thinking i can use that 200$ to buy an ultrabase or something.
thanks for reading.
