does anybody know if leaving the firewire (1394 net adapter)enabled on their x60s consumes battery life? are we better just disabling it if we dont use any firewire devices. the reason i ask is that i initially disabled the adapter on the network connections menu or the device manager, however at randoms times when i reboot, it shows up turned on again, somehow enabling itself. anybody with similar experience?

This happens on all of my computers (notebook and desktop). I have no idea why. Maybe it is like that by design.

I've never had it happen on its own like that. Sometimes it happens after driver updates. Maybe you need to disable it using the Thinkvantage device management utility?
One sure fire way to disable it: uninstall the drivers.
