X6-series LCD quality (grainy?)

I've been spending some time with the X60s on display at the co-op on campus and I've noticed that images seem to be a bit grainy. It's not a UL-LCD. I know because it's one of the Japanese models (I'm in Japan at the moment) and I believe that only ONE model has it - and it's not Japanese.

So, I'm wondering if this LCD is just a bad one, or if everyone has the same issue.

Well, I wouldn't say it's blatantly grainy, but if you switch your Windows XP theme to classic, open up windows explorer or something, and look around the grey areas undeneath the title bar you'll see some grainyness.

Maybe I'm just used to the higher pixel density of my 14" SXGA+, but I just want to make sure before I buy an X60s.

Thanks guys.

I've seen what your talking about in the explorer under the title bar. It's a strange occurance. Typically I just ignore it these days.

I'm not going to say that I've never seen it on my x60s, but just checking right now, I can't see it.

Overall, I think the display is fantastic. The only issue I have is closing the lid and another resolution coming back...but that's software.

Also, I highly recommend running / tuning Clear Type. All my text is much sharper after running that.

Good luck with your decision,

Bill

I moved to the x60s from a (gigantic) Dell D800 with the most impressive Samsung monitor with 1920x1200 pixel resolution and the smoothest color balance. I was initially very unimpressed with the x60s monitor, but I have been tweeking for a week now and must say--in the end it's not too bad. I didn't buy the TP for its monitor, but it's bright, which is essential for good viewing of images, and reasonable color balance can be achieved. It also responded well to ClearType adjustments.
Overall, I'm very impressed with this little, long life, computer!

cheers,
