Hang after logon screen

#1 Post by surg » Tue Jun 20, 2006 2:40 pm

Just had a hang after logon screen. Only cure was to do a system restore out of secure mode. It happened when rebooting after windows update. System restore entry was 'software distribution service 2.0'.
Anyone experienced the same?

It's clearly a software (OS to be exact) problem. I could say many bad things about Windows right now but there's no point.

To me (R50e) happened quite a few times when I had a USB External Storage Device connected.

Also the fact that "restore" fixed it (along with its appearance at logon screen) prooves that is possibly a driver issue.

So... try booting with NO devices attached and with the laptop plugged into power.
If you have a little more time in your hards, go back to Windows Update and do a Customized update, selecting by hand (and reading their descriptions) the necessary patches.

Actually I had no devices attached when the X60s hang. Neither did I change or install anything prior to crash.
