X60 in X6 ultrabase - bluescreen on startup

#1 Post by sslim » Thu Jun 29, 2006 9:51 pm

I've had my X60 with an X6 ultrabase for a few months now. Great machine - much better than the Sony I had before. Excellent forum too.

Last week or so I've had a series of problems when docking to the ultrabase (no problems physically docking like others have reported - clicks in just fine).

1. With the X60 on/in suspend mode when I dock I get no power or access to USB/DVD/CD drive. Shutting down, then redocking, power and USB works fine.

2. This happened a few times, then at a meeting I was at a couple of days ago I was plugging in and out an external projector directly to the X60 (we were switching between computers). Worked fine a few times, the last time I plugged it in, X60 dies/shuts down. Eventually I can start it up again.

3. This morning I get into work, dock the X60 to the ultrabase and start it up. Blue screen, refuses to start up in normal mode. If I take it out of the ultrabase, starts up fine. I can even plug the monitor, ethernet, power directly into the X60 and it starts OK but it's a no go on the ultrabase.

Anyone else having similar problems. If so, any solutions?

Do you get a BSOD with information or some other blue screen?

Sounds like either a bad ultrabase or bad connection between the ultrabase and the computer. Ask for a replacement ultrabase.

Not a whole lot of information - just says there is a hardware/software problem and is shutting down to prevent damage.

Thanks for advice. Will take the ultrabase in to IBM.
