Purchased x60s with back to school sale

I purchased the x60s with the back to school sale items ($1799), and received a free 512 upgrade (now it will have 1.5 g RAM), a 100 5400rpm hard drive, fingerprint reader, blue tooth, AND Ultra Slim Drive (2.4X MAX DVD).

The homepage mentioned that one of the 'KEY DIFFERENCES' between the x60s sale and the x60 sale was the ULtra slim drive w/x6 ultrabay.

After i ordered the product, and reviewed the order, it never specifically mentioned the X6 bay BUT it did have the included ULTRA SLIM DRIVE...so i was not sure if i had to order the additional X6 bay, or if i had to order an enclosure for the DVD drive.

I called the sales dept. and the dude just said that YES the X6 comes with the package. So that is the deal for anyone interested in persuing this fantastic offer.

Is "Ultra Slim Drive" a USB driver or it has to be used with the
dock? Also, any idea how heavy it is for the "Ultra Slim Drive" and the dock?

I just bought a x60 two days again and thinking return that buy the X60s, it is really a great deal.

thanks/chong

I just did the EXACT same thing. Called support about the x6 ultrabase not being listed once you select "customize and buy" and he said it was included with the computer. I went ahead and paid the extra $99 for discounted 1GB RAM, so I'll have 2GB now. That should last me well through 3 years of law school!

To answer cqxiao, the Ultra Slim Drive is a docked drive, not simply an external drive. Check out: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62441

X60s should make a fantastic law school computer. I used various ultralights for my legal studies. They are: Toshiba Portege 3490ct years 1 and 2; ThinkPad X21 year 3; and Apple 12" PowerBook for year 4 (I was a night student).

I always enjoyed watching my classmates schlep their 9lb Dell Inspirons (the most popular laptop at Loyola Los Angeles) and complain when things stopped working, while my computer was always thin, light and small.

Make sure you have the 8-cell battery and you might even go for the plate battery as well. You would have a single unit that can run for a full day of classes without worrying about AC power.

Thanks. I ordered the 8-cell battery, so I'm thinking that should be enough. I'll just stash my AC Adapter in my locker if I know I'll be at the school for a long time.

haha...well good to know i'm not the only person who noticed this. Perhaps it's a pre-law thing. I also happen to be starting up law school at the end of August (i'll be going to UCONN) as a part time night student. I had to buy a laptop for it, and i'm glad i made the right choice :)

Did you buy an external monitor to hook it into for use in your room? I'm a little strapped for cash right now (waiting on loan disbursement), but once I have enough, I'm going to buy a Dell Ultrasharp 17" - they're only $215 right now (incl. S&H and tax).

What is the shipping date on yours? Mine says 8/09. I really hope it ships before then, because i'm leaving for school on the 13th and would like to have it with me!

My ship date is the 9th of August as well. When I was on the phone with the support guy, he said that typical is 10 bussiness days, but it is possible to get it before. He said it depends on the availibility of the model, and the volume of orders at the time, so we will see what happens.

As for external monitor, I went to www.ecoste.com and had bought a 19inch monitor (GEM is the name) about a year ago (total came out to $225). So if you search around, i'm sure you can find a 19 Inch Monitor for about that price.

I think viewsonic is having deals right now as well for monitors. You could also checkout www.bensbargains.net . They have sale items all the time, and i have had good luck with them.

Have you ever used the Ultrasharp series from Dell? I think it is well-worth the money over even a 19". Just my opinion though.

I actually have a new flat panel dell 19 inch for work (about a year old), and i am very much impressed with the dell flat panels. After using a 19 inch LCD, i could not have done a 17. I just found a deal on a decent monitor and bought it. I'm not particularly picky so long as it looks better than a CRT, and takes up less space.

I ordered the same computer on July 18 and only received an order confirmation by email so far. Today, two days later, the order status is still "in process" with an estimated ship date of August 9. Has anyone gotten a second message from Lenovo, in addition to the order confirmation, or is your order status anything other than "in process"?

I ordered mine on that day and it is still "in process"

[censored], there must be a ton of people who took advantage of these deals. I really hope it gets here sooner than Aug 9th.

Pre-law, what's that? Very few schools offer a "Pre Law" program anymore, with most future law students earning degrees in Political Science.

pre-law are not really degrees. There is a univeristy here in NY called John Jay and it has a criminal justice program which is basically a pre-law. Pre-law is only carriculum really that prepares you for law school. Kinda like pre-med, just a bunch of bio, chem, and physics classes.
