First off I would like to say I am sorry for making another thread like this. I have been spamming this in everyones thread that made a thread pertaining to this topic. Litterally thread crapping on my second day on the forum Please forgive me.

On friday I placed an order for an X60S.
BT, FingerPreader, 1.5 gigs ram, 100gig harddrive, verizon card builtin, extended batt, X6 ultrabase with dvd recorder, wireless card, 3 year warranty.

It cost me 1900 shipped tax included.

I need this thing for school and I know lenovo takes there time shipping so I ordered early. My estimated ship date is 15th of august. Now the Merom is coming.

I am in a dillema, litterally almost a psychological contradiction.

I want the fastest processor and the newer one because im buying a new computer, yet I know im going to pay out the [censored] if I want something similar on the new machine, and at the same tiem I know I wont need the extra processing power of the core duo 2 for what I will be doing and I also know that the processor will run only 1 core at a time on battery anyway which is what im doing all day anyhow further making it pointless.

BUT GRRRRRR  I still want the newer one.

Tell me what is the SMARTER move.

Note from Moderator: The SMARTER move is to follow the Rules of the Road and not multi-post. It keeps your account from being made inactive...

Keep the X60s. Processor speed is about the LEAST important spec on an ultraportable. Battery life and size/weight are far more important.

CoreDuo was a massive performance step from Pentium-m, but still makes almost no difference in daily productivity on the tasks for which an ultraportable is used. Merom will have a performance boost, but again unless you are playing high-end games, it will likely be a matter of half a second here and a second there.

I agree with asiafish. Keep the X60s. If you always wait for the better and faster model that is just over the horizon you end up never buying a computer. Don't fall for the marketing hype. The X60s is a great machine and you will be very happy with it, especially with the specs you are getting. Lenovo's back to school sale, I assume.

For me its usually a major feature addition that makes me want something new. For instance, the WWAN has me drooling over the X60s. Without that feature, I'd not give it a second thought.

It's a great feature but not @ $60/month unless it was my main internet access. Even then, I've heard Verizon has been throttling back on some accounts if they feel you're using too much bandwidth.

Its practically useless to me in all honesty. Im in school where we have wifi everywhere. The only advantage the card has is that if your in a pinch having it there to order for 15 bucks/day is a convenience.

I would suggest you keep your current computer too.

Yes, newer model is more powerful. But a handgun exists although Nuclear weapons are more powerful. I see a lot of people buy fancy stuff but never notice that they do not really need to.

I do a lot of computings but now I use a X41 as my main computer and it serves me well. My wife used have a Pentium 4, but she nows works on the X24 and never complains about its speed restrictions (Pentium III 1.1G).

Technology keeps on improving and changing and you will never be able to get the latest...! Get what you have now and upgrade it later on. What you feel lack off, then upgrade it.

I used to go after and look for latest computer stuffs and in the end, here i buy the latest, next week come out another new one... emm... I am so tired of chasing after new technologies now...

:-) I prefer to get what i have now and upgrade later... Latest technologies is good but it will make your head spin... if you decide to always go after it...

Do not waste money on stuffs which look fanciful but you got no use for it...! ;-)

regards,

You are very correct, and I completely agree with you and I know I shouldnt try to chase tech. I even told myself this a while ago when i decided to not upgrade to the latest and greatest desktop PC.

But I am sure that I am not the only one that has had a devil sit on one shoulder and an angel on the other and not know which way to turn.

Dear Moderator:

I have experienced the same temptations/considerations you have expressed here and I have but one suggestion:
Stick with the X60s you have on order: ... I have one and I'm thrilled with it. You will not be disappointed and after the newness wears off you will be glad you did....NOT... change your mind...:D

Stick with the X60 that you ordered, Sam; the majority of the Thinkpads I have used have been T Series Thinkpads, and yet I still *really* like the form factor of the X Series and I was hard pressed to not think of getting an X60 after trying one out. I would go ahead and fully enjoy it when it arrives. :D

Who knows how long it will take for the Merom X-series to be released, much less actually ship to you. If you need the machine for school, are you willing to go a few months with no machine? The X60s has been in production for long enough that most of the bugs are worked out. I agree with everyone else that you should stick with the machine you have on order.

I apologize in advance for acting like a forum cop, but next time could you please make the post subject more descriptive. Something like "Help: keep X60s or wait for Merom X-series?" would have been helpful.

You guys need to seriously pay attention to what this forum is about, nonny already gave one warning. This thread is so off topic and ridiculous it should be moved, locked or deleted.

Chill it, everybody...There is already enough to be done without pointing out that, errr, e-pe-thingy issues.

If I wanted to hear people go on and on about such issues as virtual reproductive organ size, I would talk to this guy (most likely in a CS game, with the standard timeline progression to yo momma jokes; which I can pass up)....but, thankfully, these are the Thinkpad Forums. :D
