X60s+Ultrabase dimensions

#1 Post by madana » Wed Aug 02, 2006 8:04 pm

Greetings,

PCWorld review reports X60s as having 10.6 by 9.4 by 1.5 in size. Although it is not stated explicitely, I guess they meant X60s with Ultrabase snapped on.

However, I am a bit doubtful about the thickness. Is 1.5" with Ultrabase a correct dimension? Can anybody owning Ultrabase verify it? My estimation is that it should vary from 1.7-1.9".

Also, I am a bit curious as to the exact weight of X60s+Ultrabase. Is 4.92 lb a correct guess?

Sorry for asking such ordinary questions, but as you can reckon, I am still measuring the thing up and down before deciding to go for it.
Regards,
Madana

The exact measurements with the Ultrabase and my X60 (model 1709-7HU) docked and with the lid closed is:

10.5" (left to right)
9 3/8" (front to back)
2" (top to bottom at the rear)

It's 1 5/8" (top to bottom) at the front.

By the way, the 8-cell battery is standard.

The exact weight will depend on: 1) the battery used in the X60s (4-cell vs. 8-cell) and 2) whether there's something in the Ultrabay of the Ultrabase or not. The PC World article states 6.1 pounds.

I do have an X60s w/ an Ultrabase X6 (and an X31 w/ an Ultrabase X3), but IMO the beauty in the X60s is that it's so thin and light. If you expect to need an optical drive nearly all the time, you should probably consider a T60 rather than an X60s+X6 (which, frankly, is a bit bulky and unconvenient). My €0,02.

Thank you, Timmy and Domi, for your replies. Looks like X60s+UBase is a bit of a ThickPad, but is still worth it.

I guess they meant X60s, Ultrabase plus power brick etc.

The clean weight of X60s+8 cell+Ubase should be 4.92 lb. (3.46+1.46)
