Wireless Problem

#1 Post by viper81 » Tue Aug 08, 2006 11:12 am

Hi, the Thinkvantage Access has been giving me problems lately. Her are the problem messages:

1) ThinkVantage Access Connections Main Service Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

2) ThinkVantage Access Connections Status Icon has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

3) ThinkVantage Access Connections Wireless Status Icon has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

4) ThinkVantage Access Connections - OnScreen Menu has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

I can't even connect wirelessly now. When I press Fn+F5, it takes a mighty long time to load (more than 10 mins). I have tried updating the Thinkvantage Productivity Center but the problem still exists.

Anyone experience this too? What should I do now?

Regards,
Terence

Have you done anything recently to the machine? Removed software? Disabled services?

Thanks for your reply.

I wasn't able to connect to the internet, not even using a wired connection.

All I did was to update the BIOS, but the problem did not surface immediately.

In the end, I had to reformat the x60.

Anyone not using the Thinkvantage Productivity Software at all?

If you don't have a specific need for crazy location management, you may be better off without Access Connections. I removed it and windows handles things fine without the extra overhead. Many other people have complained about AC as well, but I can see how it might be useful if you have multiple heavily secured access points that you need to customize.

The thing that bothered me most was that I was never able to get it to keep ethernet AND wireless connected at the same time (I'm not saying you can't, just that I gave up looking for the ability)

This is an excellent explanation of the same exact experience I have had. Now without Access Connections, I have reliable fast connections via, wireless, ethernet ... :D

I believe my case had someting to do with the Thinkvantage software. I did uninstall the Access Connection and things went worse. I could not even enable ethernet or wireless despite checking the box that allows windows to manage the connections.
