So much for my "should ship today or tomorrow." I'll call my sales rep again Monday and see if I can get him to expedite shipping when it finally does ship. I would order it from a 3rd party, but the $700 off back-to-school deal really can't be matched, even though I could get by with lesser specs. I'm willing to wait since I already own a lappy, but it's still frustrating having the date pushed back...and back...and...
Good luck to everyone else waiting.

Hey all.
I ordered my first Thinkpad and it's going to be an X60 (couldn't afford the X60S on a student budget!). I'm really excited to be a new Thinkpad owner. I had a corporate version when I was working, and going back to school has given the incentive to replace my personal Dell laptop with a Thinkpad.
For what it's worth, I ordered mine on July 30th, and it shipped about 2 days ago. It's been stuck in Louisville for two days, but the Lenovo website still claims it's "On Time" for arrival tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Best of luck to everyone!

It shipped! Woo hoo! Now I have to wait (patiently) for the whole customs thing and all that, but hopefully I will have it next week.
Synopsis: Ordered the X60s on 7/25, and it shipped today, 8/21. Better now than never.

Mine was est to ship today, 8/21 and shipped right on schedule. While it was a long wait (ordered 7/28) no complaints on extending the ship date.

anyone know if the UPS delivery requires a signature? If so, I might have to skip all my classes tomorrow and sit at home waiting for the guy. I'm guessing they won't leave it on my porch. What do you guys think?

If you live in an apartment complex near campus like me, I would leave a note on the door for the UPS man to leave the package with the main leasing office so I can pick it up whenever I get back. I believe they do require a signature. If nobody is home, they leave a note saying they'll give it a couple more tries in the following days. After that, they'll just leave it at a local UPS for you to pick up. I wouldn't skip class unless you really have no other way to receive or fetch it.

Got it! (X60s)
It shipped...YESTERDAY, and I got it today. Apparently my ground shipping got switched to Express. Woo hoo! It's charging as we speak. I'm looking forward to playing with it later. Oh, and UPS left it right in front of my door, despite the fact it needed a signature. At least it wasn't stolen. And I didn't have to drive 30 minutes to the UPS depot.
(I can't believe only two days from Shanghai.)
Cheers, all,

I received my x60s this morning. It's shipped on 08/21. I figure out that the "09/04 est. ship date" IS a worst case scenario thing. Besides the well-known warm-right-palm-rest thing, it is great. What a solid machine!

Mine shipped on Tuesday arrived yesterday at my moms job at 7PM yesterday. I checked tracking in the morning and it was stuck in customs, so I didnt check again. I get home home and it was delivered, I was there at 730 to. Had I known I would have had it in my hands last night instead I got it this morning.
I opened it up, took a few pictures of it, put it to charge in its dock and had to go to work
Guess ill play with it tonight. It looks so hot I want to have sex with it.

i got my X60 (1709-7HU) yesterday

. second attempt from UPS, but I was there at my parents' house waiting to receive it and sign for it. mine didn't ship with a spec sheet and no amount of playing with the lenovo site would result in a list of the features i'd selected on the machine. i wish lenovo would send an email list of your machine's specs along with a sheet inside the box so you can make sure you got the right one.
just as a warning: i found out belatedly that you can't stack discounts with lenovo. i bought my system through an EPP program, and when ordering - the "discounted RAM memory" special was available on the EPP page. I selected the discounted 1 gb of extra RAM for $81. They changed my order and only gave me 512 mB of extra RAM for $81 (no discount) without notifying me by email. I only found out when I checked the machine, saw I only had 1 GB of RAM, and called to ask. You'd think they'd notify me that they were changing my order?
Regardless of not getting *exactly* the machine I ordered, I've been really happy with my first Thinkpad so far

. I'm thinking of buying the extra memory myself and installing it. Is it hard to do on Thinkpads?

Ordered X60s 170469U on 09/06.
The order was split into 3 separate parcels (laptop, Ultrabase and DVD Multiburner)
DVD Multiburner:
scheduled to ship: 10/04
shipped: 09/06
Ultrabase:
scheduled to ship: 09/27
shipped: 09/09
Laptop:
scheduled to ship: 09/28
shipped: 09/19
Sales representatives who I dealt with were extremely helpful and accommodating.
First they helped customize the machine to suit my needs and save some money.
Then they actually helped expedite the shipment to meet my deadlines and even put it on crucial priority list, so it shipped in just 1.5 days.
They were also willing to change shipping address on my request, but did not have enough time because the package just zipped all the way from Shanghai to a place in US in a matter of hours due to crucial priority.
I could not thank them and God enough.

Make sure you get the right 8X DL multiburner, many ppl are getting the single-layer 4x slow ones that produce burn errors.
I got the crappy burner (not the one in the official TA book for my model), and they wont exchange it for the right one.
Oh... but after much whining, Lenovo offered me a return with full refund. But I probably wont return it because of the low sale price. And i like the machine.
I have extensively used both X60 and X60s at IBM... it's a slight trade-off between superior performance and 0.1 pounds... I cant tell the difference blindfolded.
So just get the one that ships faster, or is cheaper (the X60 170997U and the X60s 170469U were the same price when i ordered)... I got the X60 because of availability, and it arrived 4 business days after ordering.

In case anyone is keeping track.
I ordered an X60 under the Back to School special on 8/28/2006. This is with the base and Accidental Warranty.
The most recent ship date I have received is 10/4/2006.
I was told that because I ordered a base and Accidental Warranty it would take longer. Not exactly the response I was looking for.
I sent a scathing email to Lenovo today. At least they might the picture that they are losing customers.

I checked it. It is Panasonic UJ-842. Does it look correct to you?

i am unfamiliar with the panasonic. google it and check the stats. compare that to the 40y8623 on the lenovo site.
Hmmm, how can buying a warranty affect the ship date?!!

If anyone is interested:
I placed an order for an X60 and base on 8/28. Was told 3 weeks maximum for delivery.
Order was delayed and supposed to ship 10/4. I called the morning of 9/29 to confirm that the ship was still 10/4 and that was confirmed. Then about 4 hours later I get a call stating that my shipment has arrived.
So, basically Lenovo is struggling to keep their delivery schedule up to date.
Oh yeah, I am extremely glad I decided to wait for the machine rather than find another. Worth the wait...but only for so long.

This frustrating situation of order date, estimated time of arrival, actual time of arrival has been a problem all year with all models of 60 series ThinkPads.
Between January 06, and July 06, I ordered four new 60 series ThinkPads. An X, Z, and two T models, each ordered individually in different months. I experienced exactly the same variety of problems as is being reported in this thread.
In my opinion this is one of the greatest public relations problems Lenovo has at the moment. I watched my order status go from a certain day about 8 weeks out after the intial order to having that same date change five times some sooner, some later until finally the computer arrived. Then there is the issue of shipping method. Ground is what is listed and when I asked to expedite and use another method I was told that it would only cause a delay. Then to find out once the computer arrived that it was actually shipped via express, not ground!
So to those of you still waiting I offer this. Place little value on what you are being told or you see when checking order status via the web. Just try to be patient and your computer will indeed get here.
The only solution to those of you who cannot wait or live with completely unreliable information is to buy from an authorized reseller that has your model in stock.
However here is an important fact to keep in mind. The warranty is issued to the machine, not to it's owner, and starts the minute it is initially delivered. So if you buy from a reseller and they have had it in inventory for 2 weeks you will lose 2 weeks of coverage. So ask yourself if that compromise is worth it.
For me it was, as I finally cancelled one of my ThinkPad orders with Lenovo, called a reseller and had the ThinkPad of my choice the very next day! In addition I saved several hundred dollars in sales tax which paid for shipping and in the end I saved $200 as opposed to buying from Lenovo.

I'm sure shipping time varies greatly depending on how many orders they have pending to build at the time when someone places an order. Parts supplies can also effect ship dates.
I just talked with a Lenovo sales rep, placed an order for an X60s and he told be it would ship in 15 days or less. When I get my order #, I'll wait a day or so and then go to the Lenovo website to see what the ship date says there.

Would you believe that:
1. The sales rep did not know what he was talking about, or
2. He lied.
Got my order # this morning. X60s ordered 10/5, estimated shipping date is 11/10 - that's just over 4 weeks. Time will tell . . . . . . . .

Yes I would believe that, as frustrating for you as it is.
I honestly believe that the sales reps are not lying to us, they have no reason to. It's a matter of them operating without the information, training and support they deserve.
I think it's a matter of serious disorganization on Lenovo's part, and I am NOT bashing Lenovo.
Overall, I'm happy with the product, Lenovo, and find no issues of major consequence other than this sales and distribution experience. This situation is not that complex, there must be a way for them to convey the correct information to the sales reps, so in turn they can advise the customers correctly.
Delivery issues

I orderd my X60s on June 8, 2006. 2nd day delivery.
ThinkPad X60s, 170469U, CoreDuo 1.66 Ghz, 2GB 667MHz DDR2, Multiburner
WWAN, Bluetooth, Atheros, Ultrabase, 100GB 5400rpm SATA
The UltraBay battery and the extra AC adaptor shipped 6/10 and arrived 6/13
The laptop shipped 6/14 and arrived 6/16
The carrying case shipped 6/16 and arrived 6/20
I currently have a complaint in for a refund as everything didn't arrive 2nd day as I ordered. I doubt if I will ever get the money.
I did manage to get factory pressed CD's shipped to me for free after I had been told previously that after 30 days I would have to pay $50.
If I never get the money I will still feel satisfied. And I have to say this is the best laptop that I have ever owned. 1st ThinkPad and I don't think it will be my last. I love it and didn't have to wait that long for it to arrive after seeing some of these other posts. :)

Took my newly acquired 7 day old x60s to the local IBM service center for malfunctioning Power Manager. They discovered malfunctioning HDD and keyboard instead and are replacing them now.

So much for the praised IBM quality.

Yea - once you use one, nothing else seems to quite match up to a ThinkPad.

Just couldn't resist; ordered an X60s on the 9th of Oct. First time I checked order status the Lenovo webpage said the ship date would 11/06/06; today its slipped back to 11/14/06. Spoke to the sales rep yesterday about the 11/06/06 date and was assured that I would have the machine with me before the end of October; that I should ignore the ship date that shows up on their website and just call him at the end of the week when he will have a 'real' ship date and tracking number.

Congrats on your new X60s...
Your experience regarding shipping info is normal. Here is my suggestion. Check the order status on the web in the morning and the end of the day, everyday. They adjust these dates both ways rather frequently, and despite the good intentions of your rep he may not get the correct info before you receive the computer. Or, conversely he may give you a date only for you to find that it was not accurate. Be patient, don't count on anything and your new computer will indeed arrive.
Cheers.....

Sage advice from the archery guy as what he said has been my experience.
