[joke]Maybe the word "cancel" in Chinese is not translated properly, and the factory thinks you mean "ship right away"[/joke]

The Dell XPS M1330 is the only model I would consider over the X61s at this point, and that will even be heavy (4 pounds).

I'm thinking, is Lenovos supply chain so messed up that they can't even get a cancel or change order to flow through to the factory? This is pretty basic stuff for a manufacturer. It's not like they have 5,000 laptops sitting around half made (at least I hope not). Shouldn't have IBM given Lenovo some of their supply chain and systems integration knowledge to create a system that can handle this? I know that IBM specializes in this type of consulting stuff.

Ok, a supervisor at Lenovo just called me back. She agreed to the give me the supposed "maximum" discount she could on this of $100.

However, she also said she talked with their production department. The problem for the x61 is that they can't get enough screens. She said it would realistically be July 22 at the earliest before my order is shipped out.

I took the discount, which should bring my final price down to $900 after all discounts (tailormade, fatcash).

That July 22 date would be quite horrible if it were true. Thankfully I don't have any immediate need for this laptop, but I still want to get things in a reasonable amount of time.

Continuing with my saga, I got the confirmation e-mail, which shows nearly everything right, with a 7/15 ship date. However, during the rebooking, the original x61s was model 7669, this one is 7668. The difference is that the 7669 model includes the 3 year warranty, and the 7668 model does not. This is getting quite frustrating.

Are you worried that the change to your order ($100 discount) could affect your fatcash?

My order number hasn't changed, which is what would affect the fat cash. I'm more worried about the Tailormade discount. Some people say that they will honor a June order date, but I'm not confident of that.

I'm probably going to give up on this order soon. While my new Dell 1210 isn't as light, I'm impressed with almost every other aspect of it...build quality, battery life (about 5.5 hours with wifi), speed, size, display resolution. I can revisit the x61 in 6 months or so when prices have come down further and Lenovo has smoothed out their production problems.

I ordered the x61s CTO on June 18. The estimated ship date is July 19. Is it a common duration? Since it is almost a month while the sales rep said it will take 2-3 weeks to ship.

By the way, I am very unsatisfied with the service quality of lenovo customer service. I called them to inquire about some misunderstandings on my system, and they promised to call back to me. They never called back since then.

I was surprised to find that mine shipped today, 7/2 much earlier than the expected shipping date of 7/19. I ordered on 6/15.

So it appears that Lenovo is trying to be conservative about shipping dates, at least in this occasion.

Good luck folks.

X61T Shipped

#310 Post by rog1039 » Mon Jul 02, 2007 12:37 pm

My X61T just shipped on July 2nd. I placed my order on June 1st. My tracking info has not been posted yet, so I'm not sure what day it is supposed to arrive. I will update once I get the tracking number. Oh yea, my estimated ship date was July 4, so they were pretty good on the estimate for my order.

Ah, finally!

Here are the specs:
SXGA+
L7500
1 gb pc5300 ( getting swapped out for 2 x 2gb sticks from NewEgg)
1 gb Intel Turbo Memory
100 GB 7200
X6 Tablet Ultrabase
DVD Burner for Ultrabase
Intel 4965 AGN
8 Cell Battery

Mgags7, what was your x61t configuration? Did you get any accessories, i.e. ultrabase? I ordered mine the same day, thus my curiosity!

well, after ordered on 5/31 and having my ship date pushed back 5x, I finally for the email on 6/28 (in response to a very angry email to their sales department) that my screen (SXGA) was currently on a 3-4 week back order.

Furious after having been strung along 2-days-at-a-time, I cancelled my order and bought through an online retailer. Just when I thought that my nightmare of Lenovo Sales Dept. Hell was over, I get an email the following Monday that my order shipped! Now I have to "accept the package and follow their instructions to get a full refund"

More hassle while I'm studying for the CA Bar Exam. Does anyone know if I can just refuse to accept the package and be done with it? Ideas?

Just ordered a x61 tablet today (7/3) expected shipping date is 8/3, a whole month bleh. Anyway I'll be waiting for a long time apparently, unless they get a plethora of screens in.

Unfortunately, you can't refuse the package... Lenovo is anal about that. When I threatened to refuse the package and get a chargeback from my credit card company, they threatened right back:
As the order has started the packing process (procurement, configuration, testing) we must
make a request to stop this process in order to outright cancel the order. As we know, the
request is in process but is taking longer than we had expected due to heavy business
volumes. If the request cannot be processed and the unit ships out, please accept the
package and reply to this email to arrange a no questions asked return on your unopened
product. Lenovo will also cover the shipping if this situation occurs.

**Failure to do so or refusal of package will result in a 15% restocking fee deducted from
the product's credit.**

(the bold was like that in the email they sent me)

I sent you a PM, though... take a look... has some interesting alternative "options"

I'm looking to sell my Macbook for a Thinkpad X61s. However, seeing most of the people haven't received their laptop yet, I may hold out a little bit later.

Looks like the ordering may be happening sooner than not. I ordered an X61 tablet on June 25. The IBM posted delivery was July 26.....which was disappointing as my new toy was a month away.

However, parts of the order started arriving within days, and the whole shipment was completed by the X61 arriving July 2. So the whole wait time was only a week. I'm happy.

I didn't get the ultrabase, it was a pretty basic config

1gb ram
80gb hdd
multitouch screen
turbo memory

thats the skinny on it.

Here I sit happily typing on it :)

Enjoying my X61T

#322 Post by David Fenner » Fri Jul 06, 2007 11:22 am

I received my X61T yesterday, July 5, having ordered it on 5-31.

I have owned / used an x41t, x60t Core Duo, and an x60t Core 2 Duo.

This machine feels much smoother than either of the x60 tablets. I think the improved intel graphics help significantly. The 950 chipset really was horribly underpowered for Vista.

Also, I have only used it for a day, and I have no measurements, but I have yet to suffer from an uncomfortable right hand from the heat. My X60 Core 2 Duo was miserable after an hour on 802.11 and heavy typing. I will be very happy if heat dissipation has in fact been improved.

Also, the WVA Screen is a move in the right direction. My only regret moving from my old Toshiba M200 Tablet to an x60t was the washed out feeling of the lenovo screen. I am not saying it is a huge change, but when I have direct sun light in my office, the x61 screen is still usable.

I can't really comment on the 1 GB of Turbo Memory, but the system is snappy (after a custom reinstall stripping out most of the bloatware).

I requested XP particularly for a fast boot because I am still not convinced by the functionality of the current Vista system. A 3G memory is also chosen for fast data processing. Don't know if this is a good choice or not.. Any suggestions? Thanks,

I'm with you on the XP versus Vista. I would prefer XP instead. No regrets though. I would suggest getting the minimum RAM and buy 2 GIG elsewhere. I got 2 sticks of 1GB OCZ RAM for a total of $40 after rebates. Besides that, if you are happy with your order, just wait and enjoy it when it arrives.

You can order directly from crucial.com for some very good prices on top quality memory. You will need at least 1GB for Turbo Memory if you so configure it in that way.

Compare those prices and see if it makes a huge difference. However, be careful with changing orders with Lenovo. It is an overly complicated process that could involve a further delay in your ship date.

Me? I'm still waiting after a 5/31 order date.

I'm waiting from a 6/5 order date. Have you gotten anything out of Lenovo because of the insane delays? Money off the price, free battery, etc?

No, nothing yet. I'd be happy just getting the laptop! But I hope we do get something, and I'm certainly going to ask for it.
