Thanks for your replies; I am generally very patient. Its a demand of my profession--the academy--but, I do hope they get this machine to me well before the 6th, when I leave for a year-long research trip to some far corners of asia. This is off topic, but I can't resist pointing to the irony in Lenovo's order status system...... Lenovo's site still runs on IBM's servers; uses IBM applications; etc; etc...And IBM, the world's largest consulting firm, markets itself as the best at providing IT services and at helping businesses run smoothly in our globalized economy. Yet, somehow they can't come up with a web site that can give acccurate order status information or even tell whether parts are in and machines are going out at the other end  :!:

Well said, I'm baffled with this situation, especially since it did not use to be this way when IBM was running the show...

Well, the X60s was handed over to UPS in Shanghai yesterday and has a delivery date of Oct 17 showing up on the UPS tracking site. I ordered an open bay/custom built system on the 9th, so delivery within 12-14 days is pretty good.

The web site and order status information is all on Lenovo's end and IBM really does not have anything to do with how things are run over there. The inconsistencies with shipping dates is in part due to the inefficiency of its supply chain and Lenovo is aware of that. I was doing an analysis for one of my business classes and happened upon an article at Time Magazine. This is out of page 3 of the article:
Time Magazine wrote:The biggest obstacle for Lenovo's U.S. business is an inefficient supply chain. Order a computer from Dell in the U.S., and it usually arrives within 10 days. Order from Lenovo and it could come as quickly. Or you could go on vacation for a couple of weeks, and it may or may not be there when you return. "Outside of China, our supply chain is not world class," Amelio admits. To help fix the problem, he poached Dell's Gerry Smith to run supply-chain management--a Dell specialty.
It is definitely a work-in-progress. I finally put my foot down and purchased my X60s on 8/22 after lurking through this thread for about two months. Because of the 3-4 week status, I anticipated delivery on 9/11 or later, but it ended up only taking one week, 8/29, a far cry from what a lot of you in this thread experienced.

Ordered my X60s on Oct 5 via Lenovo sales rep and the next day my delivery date showed as Nov 11 - approximately 5 weeks.

I received the X60s today, which is just under two weeks.

I had a similiar experience, I ordered my X60s 10/16 a day later I received an email saying my multiburner would ship immediately but the unit would not ship until 11/14. I got another email this morning telling me the unit shipped yesterday and is due to arrive here on Monday, the tracking info shows it left Shanghai yesterday. Needless to say I was Very pleased :D

I ordered one from Lenovo over the phone. The current ship date has moved out to December 18th.

Aside: is the shipping date moving out normal for everyone or is it part of the fun of ordering through the Employee friends and family plan?

Thanks for reply.
I ordered one in dealer online shop last week, but I could not get a confirmed shipping date yet.

Past a few years, I ordered a several ThinkPad in web, fortunately most of all cases were not pushed out.
But a lot of people experienced a shipping delay,I believe, especially at the time of rolling out of T60/p.

I ordered my X60tablet this morning:

SXGA
100 gig 7200rpm drive
2 gigs ram
ultrabay with multidrive

Ship date quoted was 10 days.

However, I found the online system kind of confusing and inconsistent in pricing and options. I really wanted the SXGA version, but the system kept showing regular XGA.. I wanted to take advantage of the "It costs you what it costs us" employee discount - but gave up with online and called to place my order. Good thing too, because Lenovo had goofed on cancelling my previously misconfigured "pre-order", and the wrong system was (maybe still is) coming to me on the 6th.

Oh well, ultimately, I just hope this is a great little system! I'm really looking forward to it.

Now, I just hope I made the right screen decision. It was very hard to decide between the brighter Multi-Touch and the SXGA. If the SXGA is very dim, I'll be bummed! I mostly do sketching (in Alias) and photography, so I figured higher res was the way to go.

Good luck,

Well, my extra power adapter showed up today... I can't use it for anything, but it's a start!

Hope you get yours on time Greg... I'm a little worried about the quality of Lenovo's ordering/operations after all of this craziness. I miss IBM... but to be fair, perhaps it just takes some time to get things right...

On the GBM forums it looks like X60 Tablets with the SXGA+ screen may start shipping around January 20th, 2007.

So roughly a two-month delay between order and delivery.

I hope the date is true. The multitouch units are doing one heack of alot better than the SVGA+ screens. I use mine out in the field and while I love the high resolution, I find the SVGA+ a little "much" for out in the field.

JANUARY 20th??? Oh man, if this is true I'm going to have to pass and get something else. School starts for me on the 20th, and I can't wait that long.

Not good news.. What's up over at Lenovo, anyone "in the know"?

I ordered an x60 tablet (sxga, 1gb 2dimm, 100gb 5400 rpm, bluetooth) on Dec 11, and the estimated ship date is currently Dec 19. I'm eager to get the unit, but fortunately my T30 is still running great, and will not suffer too much while waiting. I I'll keep you updated on the order progress.

I'm headed out of town Dec 28, and would love to get it before then, but am not holding my breath.

Wish I could have gotten the unit with built-in Verizon WWAN, but it was super expensive to add this feature.

As I posted in the GottaBeMobile Forums, I ordered an X60 Tablet on November 29th, the first day customization was available. I configured an SXGA+, 1.5gb, 100gig 7200rpm, bluetooth, x6 base with CDRW/DVD-ROM... My estimated ship date was 12/13, but this morning they changed the date to 1/16. I didnt get any e-mails yet. They did ship me a Boxed copy of Norton AV 2007, I configured with 2003 and got an e-mail saying they swapped it for 2007 and sent it to me. (So that will be wrapped under the Christmas Tree as my gift this year.. )

I still dont understand why their website will give you wrong ship dates. For the heck of it, i configured the exact same machine this morning and got an estimated ship date of 12/27.. I tried this last week too and it was 12/22. That's pretty bad to make customers think they'll be getting something near the holidays, only to have that date come along and they quietly bump the date 5 weeks and hope you won't notice. That's terrible. Be honest Lenovo. I find it hard to believe now, that they had no idea there would be this delay back when I ordered. They announced this tablet the end of November to get in on the Holiday Shopping season (And put it on the home page dressed with a big red bow), then convieniently change the dates to January...

Any speculation as to what component/components are holding them up? Mine still estimates Dec 19 ship date, but am not getting my hopes up.

Didn't order through the Visa deal, though, so we will see if that makes a difference.

The SXGA+ screen seems to be the holdup. It better be perfect, given about a 2-month delay. Estimated Shipping Dates don't seem to get updated until the ESD itself arrives. Then it starts to move out...and out...and out....

This is not that out of line. Deleiver dates moved when IBM was doing the Thinkpad also. High demand and sometimes hard to get parts!

Well my 63668KU shipped today and will arrive before noon on 12-19-2006 via FedEx. Was just notified. The base with the multimedia drive (X6?) arrived today and the extra gig of RAM is waiting along with a new copy of MS Office Pro. All docs and fiiles are backed up on the portable WD160 USB drive.

These littel WD drives are nice, USB powered and they are FAST!

My sxga+ tablet just got bumped from 12/19/06 to 2/6/07. Bugger. I'd consider the toshiba, but I can't get away from the trackpoint (and the fact that my T30 is by far the best laptop I have ever used).

Wonder if they will offer a SXGA+ standard X60(s) by Feb.

X60 tablet SXGA shipping delay - from 12/19/06 to 2/6/07

#87 Post by EnergySka » Tue Dec 19, 2006 12:16 pm

I ordered a Thinkpad X60 Tablet SXGA 100GB 7200RPM 1.5GB RAM on December 1, 2006. My original ship date was 12/15/06, then changed to 12/19/06. I spoke to Lenovo on 12/18/06 to have the shipping method changed to overnight, they said the unit was in the warehouse and would ship 12/19 (with expedited 2-day shipping at no extra cost because of the delay)

This morning my shipping date was changed to 2/6/07. I already sold my previous tablet on ebay while awaiting this unit. I start school again on 1/17/07 and the delay will hurt me. Wish I could cancel, but require features available on x60. While I understand that delays are unavoidable at times, the lack of information from Lenovo, and my sales associate are unforgiveable. They obviously were aware when I spoke to them yesterday (and possible earlier) that my unit would not ship today - but did not inform me.

I did a mock order today on Lenovo.com, just to see if someone ordering the same configuration today would be given accurate shipping information. The final checkout page indicated that the unit would ship in two weeks (b.s. - obviously misleading). If there is a supply problem with the SXGA screen, informing buyers would give us the option to select another configuration, or order a competitors product. Apparently, Lenovo would prefer to grab the sale, while misleading buyers.

Hopefully, the Dell supply chain wiz hired by Lenovo can fix the state of their current system. While I do not plan to cancel my order at the present time, I do plan to post my experience on forums, and word of mouth.

so i ordered my x60s last monday, after a few issues with my credit card not going through b/c they were using my parents info that ordered my t43 for school last year. they shipped it on friday and it got to me yesterday (had to pick it up from my apt office today) but it was quite fast and i am quite pleased.

though i do have a question about the x60s screen, the bottom edge is really bright compared to the other sides, you cant notice it with windows open, but when there is a black screen you can see it. anyone know whats with that?

I placed my order of 636386u at end of Nov. My order is shipping out today and should have it tomorrow. Already got one 63668ku today. Have another 636686u on order but there is no ship date available. I gave up another 63668ku since I thought both of my 636386u were coming in.

Received a call from Lenovo, rep stated that although the online order status shipping date shows 2/6/07; my unit will ship 1/1/07. He offered no explanation of why status has changed since I was told yesterday that unit was in the warehouse ready to ship.

I'm hopeful, but I will believe only when I'm opening the box.
