First off hi guys I found this forum about 2 weeks ago and I have been reading and have learned a lot.

Anyway I got an X60s about a week ago and I love it!! I had BIOS 1.06 running on the machine and the other day Upgraded to 1.09. Today while doing a benchmark on the processor (upgraded the ram) I noticed a 1/3 drop in the score from when I was running 1.06. At first I thought it was just the new ram I added but that was not the case, I took out the new ram and still had the same very bad benchmark. Has anyone here had the same issue with the new bios?


Update: I reverted back to BIOS 1.06 and the benchmarks are what they should be, I guess there is something weird going on with 1.09

What benchmark were you running? This is an interesting problem. Thanks for the heads up.

I was running SiSoftware Sandra 2007 sp1. On both the Processor Arithmetic and the Processor Multi-Media tests, the results were about 1/3 then what they were with the 1.06 BIOS. Both tests were done under AC power with the IBM Power Manager set to Max Performance.

FYI, I ran some benchmarks (Sandra and SuperPi) and both had better results (about 1/3 better) on battery than on AC. I tried several different power profiles with no change. I then downgraded the BIOS to a couple different versions. All showed the same results. So something software related (or so it appears) is causing the machine to actually perform better on battery than on AC. I then swapped out the harddrive with one from my T60. The machine then performed as expected with the highest results while on AC.

I had the issues with the standard factory software image. I was planning on installing a different hd and performing a clean instal tonight so I'm doing that now. Hopefully the results will be correct.

What version Power Manager are you running? I am running version 1.12.

I have an X60s with the latest Power Manager (1.13c), and don't have this problem with the 1.09 BIOS.

A long shot, but a slight possibility: could there be a background task (such a virus scan, disk defragger, etc.) that runs on your system when it's on AC but not on battery? This might throw off the benchmark.

I think it was a problem with an app possibly PowerManager. After I did a clean install of XP there were no issues.

I checked there are no apps running sucking up CPU. Im going to try the 1.09 BIOS again and see if I can figure out what is causing the problem.
