x60 tablet anytime soon?
getting tired of waiting
Mid/end of October seems to be the consensus on various forums, FWIW.
I hope it's worth waiting for; it would be nice if more specs started to leak. Anyone looked on the FCC site, for example?

Own: X60T (AJU, 200GB 7200RPM), T40p (100GB 7200RPM, 2GB, Lin/Win)
Used: 700C, 760, T21, T23, T30, T41p, T43, T60p

Well it will be an X61 rather than an X60 so the specs will be impressive I think (i'd be happy with X60 specs personally). Where my hopes are is with the dimensions - I hope it can be done without expanding the X60 (or preferrably the X60s) dimensions as what happened with the X41; actually if i'm gonna wish for stuff then i'd want a touchscreen rather than a digitizer (now that is allowed by Tablet PC spec) but unfortunately I know that one isn't going to happen.Tab wrote:Mid/end of October seems to be the consensus on various forums, FWIW.

A heads-up was given to Partners recently for a possible early to mid-September order window with deliveries following in 4 to 6 weeks.MobileGuru wrote:Coming sooooooooon and well worth the wait. Hands down it is an awesome improvement over the X4 tablet.

It can change to a different form factor (slate), which can be more convenient for some tasks (reading, computing while walking around or in tight quarters, etc.). Using the pen to move the cursor on the screen is also more natural than using a mouse -- I forget the exact analogy someone made, but using a mouse to move the cursor is like going into the kitchen and moving the sink faucet to select the cooking time on the microwave.jamess wrote:Just out of curiousity... what's the tablet edition of laptop best suited for ? i'd imagine it to be cool for presentations as you can very easily flit the screen around etc., but what else?
If you check the various tablet blogs, you should be able to find videos showing the various features of the OS and pen-enabled applications, for ex: http://jkontherun.blogs.com/jkotr_audio ... _audi.html

My 7-year-old Fujitsu Lifebook B2131 has a touchscreen and indeed it's very helpful to be able to use a stylus or finger to move the cursor, click on an icon, or move a card in a card game like FreeCell. But I still haven't owned a tablet notebook because the good ones that are available now are fairly heavy.Tab wrote:Using the pen to move the cursor on the screen is also more natural than using a mouse

That is some good news
Limited availability of Merom chips

I can't tell if this is good or bad for the likelihood of the tablet being obtainable this year.

question
just from curiousity and wonder, doesn't the touchscreens from the x41 and similar modells from diff producers get scratches? bcs a friend of mine has one and it doesn't look pretty fresh anymore somehow... bcs else it would be really cool at university for taking notes (byebye paper and ink pens)
T60 Large (14" 1400x1050,2gb,80gb,9cell bat, and advanced ultrabay battery)-->going to have a big x60
, Apple Powerbook G4, DesktopPC, Networkslave (dell optiplex as printserver) ->next upgrade: samsung mh80 120gb drive
Screen protectors
You can buy screen protectors, just like you can for PDAs.
Also, it's likely the glass/plastic cover can be replaced if it needs it.

protectors
hmm yeah you can buy protectors always... but is that really the idea behind that you have to buy extra screen protection??
because i mean if they bring out a notebook special made for typing on the screen then it should be scratch free...by the my friend has a fujitsu tablet and the funny thing is that his screen has turned into yellow somehow...
i hope that wont happen to the x41 and upcomming x60/61 tablet....

Re: protectors
The writing surface is a physical object which can wear out or get damaged just like the keyboard. It's not made of unobtainium.pharao111 wrote:hmm yeah you can buy protectors always... but is that really the idea behind that you have to buy extra screen protection??because i mean if they bring out a notebook special made for typing on the screen then it should be scratch free...
It's the same idea as carrying your ThinkPad around in your hand or putting it in a protective bag.

re:
i know i know, but still i think its not nice if a surface gets scratches after one or two years (during the waranty time),
i also know that it will get scratches bcs of usage and won't look that nice anymore after a periode.... but my question is more like, is the technology that advanced that the usability periode of the screen is long enough to make the user happy for a regular living periode of a notebook (3-4years). if its that far then i'll get myself aswell the x60 tablet for university

I might buy one of these. I am not a fan of the Resolution or lack of optical that is inherent with teh X series (wishful thinking: 13.3" SXGA+ with an optical, drool) but it would be awesome for taking notes, which is what I like to use my laptop for anyhow..

I'm usually the type of person who puts the resolution as high as it goes on which computer I'm on. I received my X60s two days ago and I can tell you the XGA isn't all that bad.lithium726 wrote:I might buy one of these. I still have my T43 14" SXGA for work but using the X60s for taking notes in class is so nice.

I bought an X31 to try out the form factor and I did not like it at all.. XGA is not enough space for me to really work on, and my laptop is my work machine. But all the other tablets suck, so I might just have to suck it up...
When both the T and X fit in the backpack in the same slot and they both fit on the desk just fine, why not just use the T? I really want a tablet for my engineering classes though, limitations of the keyboard really suck sometimes.

I guess since we haven't heard anything this didn't happen.JHEM wrote:A heads-up was given to Partners recently for a possible early to mid-September order window with deliveries following in 4 to 6 weeks.
At least the long delay is convincing me they will have Merom processors and be Vista-ready instead of embarassingly out of date and underpowered.
