I have... an X41 TABLET !!! It doesn't matter how far back the person in cattle class pushes their seat, the tablet fits on the tray. And the screen is so bright that is never gets washed out if the person in front, back or side doesn't want to close the window 'cause they want to look at the clouds for four hours. The built-in optical emulation software (only for the X41 Tablet) works great for movies and other work without carrying an optical of any kind (Ultrabase or USB). Yes, I know there's software available in the market that does the same thing on any laptop. No need to tell me.

Coincidentally, I just played with an X41 tablet at the university's bookstore an hour ago. I had never used a tablet before, so it was an interesting experience. The display hinge seemed precariously flimsy.

No problems here. Besides, with as many as they've sold worldwide over the past year, and with computer/electronics forums like this one all over the internet, don't you think it would be well reported if there was a problem with the hinge? I've heard nothing of the sort. It would be a sales killer indeed if the hinge were a problem and word got out. Don't you think? Well, no one seems to be giving them away from what I see in the marketplace, even with an X60 tablet possible in the near future. And when that X60 comes out I don't think they'll be 60% off sales like they had to do with the Z60-series (another new design released about the same time as the tablet) when a replacement came out. Their tablet design itself is solid, and I hope much of it will be carried over to any new model. I'm looking forward to an X60 tablet some day too, even if it faintly clicks, hums (snorts or even farts... nowhere I work is quiet), but until then my X41 tablets are serving us quite well.

I have friend who's company has over 100 X series tablets deployed. They have not had a single failure with the display hinges. In typical ThinkPad tradition, these are designed to be used and abused and still function properly. You should see how beatup the exterior cases are on some of these from careless sales people, and they still work perfectly.

I believe they "chose" to lower the price, as opposed to "having" to discount these. It seems apparent that they were eager to get the core duos into this model line and simply wanted to price the remaining Z60 models to move quickly.

Even though I'm partial to the T series as I have counted on one for years in my business, I'm really impressed with my Z60m. For what it is and the way it's configured (modestly) I'm really enjoying the wide screen format. Especially considering that I have no interest in an "Entertainment" laptop as I don't do movies or games. It's great to have the widescreen for lots of spreadsheet work, and for working with photos.

I know, I know, you asked for three but I could'nt help myself. Six is my lucky number and I simply could not contain it to three.

Interesting but not surprising. Are you implying your T60p is much better than your T60?

Of these six laptops, I have the T23 and used to own the 600E. I acquired the T23 just last week and at first I didn't like its weight but am getting used to it. It's sturdy and very comfortable to use. It only has 256MB but XP Pro works pretty well nevertheless. On the other hand, the 600E was not so comfortable because the speakers on the palm rest scratched my wrists!

I have had, at points, 3 laptops and 2 desktops that I used daily, but SIXTEEN!!?!?!

16 is a bit much, unless they are in the hands of employees. I currently own four laptops and four desktops, though most are office machines. They are...

Laptops:
ThinkPad X41 - all mine

ThinkPad X22 - my daughter's

Toshiba Portege 4000 - my backup

Toshiba Tecra 8000 - Backup to the backup

The two Toshibas stay at the office and are also given to temp employees to use when our workload demands. Our conference room turns into a miniature secretarial pool and the laptops make it easy to put everything out of sight when things quiet down.

Desktops:
7-year-old Apple Power Mac G4 (1.0 GHz upgraded) - Family PC
Compaq AMD Duron desktop w/ 15" Dell LCD - Office Extra PC
Apple 20" iMac G5 - Front Office Computer / file server
Apple Mac Mini G4 - Associate's Office Computer

Of course I've had many others over the years. My favorite ThinkPads of all time are the X41 and T20.

i too can not freaking wait until an x60 tablet, i'm starting to take more advanced classes where note taking involves more drawing then anything else really. i carry around a 5 subject and my x40 but i would prefer one complete package.

No, the T60 and T60p are both very fine computers. It's just for what I do the T60p meets my needs better. I placed an order for the T60p just as soon as they were announced, but was told it could be up to six months for the configuration I wanted. So I ordered a T60 to use while waiting.

Yes, I currently own these models. They represent 10 years of ThinkPad use & ownership. Each was purchased new for my work. Every one of them is in pristine condition. Since laptops collapse in value after a year or so, I decided that I would keep them as opposed to selling them for less than they are worth to me.

Going to contribute again.

I have been using my X60s for 3 days or so, for extended periods of time trying to get acclimated to the keyboard and I havent had the fan turn on for me once.

its dead quiet, I can even sleep with the computer on and that says a lot. I am a very very very light sleeper.

I can't even hear my x60s, its DEAD SILENT!
If i put my ear up to the hard drive, i can hear a slight hum, but other than that, DEAD!
Even running disk defragment, it is barely audible.
I don't know about you, but I WUV my x60s.

I envy you. My X40 hard drive makes quite a bit of noise; it has been that way since the first day. At least several other X40 users have reported the same "problem", so I think it's normal. I have gotten used to it though. The problem was further reduced several months ago when I started using an air conditioner, which makes much louder noise than the X40, covering it up!

Which BIOS version are you running? My fan seems to always be on.

I just got it today, Running 1.03, havent had time really to update the bios, just getting set up now. Should I update the bios? or should I just stay since its dead silent. Its been on for about 2 hours, its warm, not nearly as hot as my T43 though, I do have the base on though, for using the DVD drive.
Although this CoreDuo is very very zippy, better than my desktop

Since everything is working fine I would not update. Only update to resolve a problem and only if the update addresses that problem. Too many times the "newer better" is "new problems".

Regarding Noise, while there are reports here on this forum, there are many X60 series that are NOT noisey. In my company we are now up to a quantity of 55 X60 & X60s models and not one is noisey. So that is an example that perhaps this is not as big of an issue as it seems. Certainly the people reporting here have the condition to varying degrees, but that's what this forum is for. The silent ones are out there going unreported.

my hard drive could wake the dead. between its click-click-clicking and the high pitch wirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr that it emits when on battery...arg

That's exactly right. Just two days ago, I updated the BIOS of my T21 to the latest version, and the computer stopped charging the battery! I immediately changed it back to the second most recent version, and it started charging the battery again.
