So many drivers.....

#1 Post by Saml01 » Fri Aug 25, 2006 8:09 am

Hopefully this thread will come in handy for all the people that recently got their machine and want to or have reformatted.

I wiped the drive and put a fresh copy of xp on it. I want to install the drivers so I dowloaded the thinkvantage system update 2. I let it find what it has. Critical update it finds the shock prevention software. Everything else is optional. In the optional I didnt see certain hardware, and the rest of the software has no description.

1. How am I supposed to know what im installing, I dont want to install extra stuff?

So I do what I always did, I went to the IBM site and downloaded each driver by hand. Except I got the intel video driver and chipset driver directly from intel.

Now I have all the drivers installed, and 2 problems.

2. WWAN, the verizon card, is installed but no dialer or manager just its driver. Where do I get that?

3. I have a device called "PCI Device" that is found on startup and I have no clue what it is?

4. In the future when I format, how do I get all the drivers installed in one shot, like my friend have told me because it seems that update utility doesnt contain everything.

5. [Non Driver related] My brand new extended battery only charges to 95%. Is this normal when it is in the dock or does the battery require a cycle?

Probably the same I also had on my X60s after installing W2K from scratch. For details, check:

If you formatted this forlder no longer exists.

And it wasnt the SD card reader afterall. The SD card reader was installed by windows, I just didnt notice. It was a second SATA controller.
