New 12" X60s User

i have bought my X60s, specification can refer to my model number below.
A bit nervous, and not use to this 12" small screen.
well, as indicated in my signature, i am a T43 user.
what advise can you guys give me in this world of 12" LCD.

Welcome to the (tiny) world of the X60s. As a registered Geek, I am amazed at how much I had to learn about this computer! I have the 1704-69U (back to school special), and I have been enjoying it immensely since last Wed., when UPS unceremoniously dropped it off at my front door.

One thing I noticed about the 12" screen (what with owning a 19" LCD on my desktop and a 15.4" on my Averatec 6210 notebook), is that you can't have as much open at one time. For instance, the pre-installed Google Desktop? Fine on a 19", but takes up WAY too much space on a 12".

One thing worth mentioning: if you're a ninny, like me, and you decide to change your Windows log-on password, and then you decide to throw the piece of paper it's written on away... you can get into Thinkvantage during boot up (pre-boot, really), and recover the lost password. I type this here in case anyone was doing what I was doing earlier and Googling 'recover lost password' (and, yes, I searched these forums). Thinkvantage might have its detractors, but I am really impressed by the software. There's a learning curve, even for us geeks, but only because it's more powerful and customizable than anything I had been used to.

12' screen is fine for basic computing. it is just okay for typing, web browsing and doing similar tasks. if you are planning to be gaming or watching dvds... 12 screen is not very good. the big adventage of 12' is that it is much easier to take class notes with a smaller computer and smaller screen. not much of a computer to drag around especially if your schools is huge. if you are planning to use this computer only at home i would not recomment 12'. if you want a portable than 12' is perfect.

have you guys ever compare its font size of the similar webpage.
Does it make any difference?
maybe i mispercept that the 12" one might have a smaller font size surfing in a webpage.

I do not connect to an external monitor because I have a fairly powerful desktop. I bought this strictly for traveling for work & vacation and grad school. My desktop rig is my gaming machine, and I would never think of using the X60s for anything besides work-related and light play (I'm currently addicted to Birds on a Wire). I know many people have only the one machine so they connect to an external monitor and keybord, but for me this is a third machine. Also, I have no trouble at all reading web pages on this machine.

I have my X60 connected to a 19" Sony LCD, and it's wonderful! I love this setup of having an ultraportable with the feel of a desktop at home. As a college student, I think this is perfect, as I am able to bring my laptop to class while still feeling comfortable at home.

Using the 19" LCD to watch shows and movies was perfect. They've recently had another deal on the same screen, except with XBrite for $177 and I am very tempted in getting another one. I'm also coming from a 17" HP ZD7000 laptop, so 12" is a big difference for me. I am still quite comfortable with the diminuitive size of the X60, however.

I find the 12" screen is actually pretty easy to get used to. I am able to use it every day, no problem, and I am generally a user of the highest res screens possible (though if they released an sxga+ or even sxga 12" x series, id buy it in a heartbeat). I have a cheap T40 on the way (which I got for a deal), and im not sure if im going to use it as a desktop replacement or just sell it.

Dont get me wrong, having a bigger screen is nice and all, but I am willing to trade off screen size for portability. The computer itself is plenty for what I do (with my 850GB of external hdds ), so I really see no need to go spend more money on a desktop (especially after spending $1888.95 on this). That being said, I may pick up a 19 or 20" lcd for it and just leave it plugged into the ultrabase.

thinking to downgrade it to T43, and it is weird, i called up IBM Service today, they said no SXGA+ LCD replacement for my T43.

Pull the screen closer to your eyes and it will appear to have the same size as the screen of your T43.
