x60s battery life

Hi
I have bought a new x60s with 8 cells battery. I was expecting 8 hrs of battery life, but it almost always shows just 4 hrs remaining on power bar (with around 99% charge remaining) whereas i am using thinkpad default setting for power and running mostly just internet explorer or firefox.
any way to check if all of my cells are working properly or not??? and how to increase battery life(without decreasing display brightness too much)???
regards

Hmm, strange. I usually get at least 5.5hr with brightness up and wwan on. Try flashing down to BIOS 1.04. The system runs a bit warmer, but it adds at least an hour plus to your life. I've tried 1.04, 1.06, and 1.09 (currently using 1.09, but plan on flashing back to 1.04), and 1.04 gets the best life out of all of them. I hope they'll release a BIOS with the improved battery life and all the bug fixes.

doesn't the fan also run louder on 1.04?

Slightly, but not too bad.

I just brough my X60 to the library today, and given the quietness of the place, the machine's fan was quite audible. It is not downright annoying like the fan on my HP pavillion, but one can easily hear the whirring sound and the fan is on all the time, even when CPU is idle. The 'clicking' sound from the hard drive is a bit loud as well. I wish Lenovo had made this laptop fanless or something, even by using a slower CPU, because quietness and battery life is way more important than power on a laptop. If I need some serious raw power, I won't be looking for it in a 12" laptop.

my fan would rarely run (1/20 of the time?). when it did run, it seemed to do so at various speeds (sometimes quiet, sometimes louder). never annoying, though.

Mine usually starts out at a high power consumption rate for some reason, and then it starts to settle down after a few minutes. You can go into the thinkvantage power manager and check the actual current draw off the battery. Mine'll start out at like 0.7-1.0 amps, then come down to around 0.6-0.7 amps. Usually at this rate I can get 7-8 hours out of the battery.

My fan kicks in about once every other minute. But it does kick in, it is quite noisy.
