Networking the X60s
Posted: Sun Sep 03, 2006 10:28 pm
I have a desktop PC and an X60s. The desktop runs Windows 2000 Pro, and the X60s runs Win XP Pro.
The desktop is
IP 10.168.106.53
subnet 255.255.255.0
default gateway 10.168.106.1 DHCP
The X60s is
IP 10.168.106.52
subnet 255.255.255.0
default gateway 10.168.106.1 DHCP
I've disabled the windows security firewall on the X60s, and the firewall on the desktop, and as far as I know all firewalls are disabled (temporarily).
The My Network Places on the desktop can see the X60s, but gives an "X60s not accessible. Network path was not found" when I click on it.
The My Network Places on the X60s does not see the desktop PC.
I can ping the desktop from the X60s, but not visa-versa. Pinging the the X60s from the desktop PC gives me a "Request timed out".
Both machines are peer to peer "WORKGROUP" and each has its own name.
I strongly suspect that the X60s is the culpret because I have a third desktop PC, and the two desktops communicate correctly. (I have turned off the third PC to simplify matters.)
The PC's are cat-5 wired through a DSL router/DHCP server etc.
QUESTION: has anyone else on this newsgroup seen the same problem and found a solution. I've been to the MS newsgroup for Win XP networking and have reached my whits end.
Thanks, Mark
