Resolution Shift

Hi,

Any help on this topic would be great!

I have an X60s set on a 1024x768 resolution with 32bit colors. However, whenever I close my lid and re-open it, briefly the screens shifts to 800x600 resolution before its back to my original with a 2-3 seconds. I find this rather annoying and haved tried a few setting tweaks that have not worked. Please advice!

I had this problem too; the way I resolved it was in display properties (right click desktop) right click on the grayed out "2" monitor and go to properties->adapter->button:list all modes->set to 1024x768 apply apply.

This doesn't stick sometimes so go next to ThinkVantage control device settings->select display settings->manage schemes...->uncheck all the boxes except "Normal" and "Presentation on Projector and ThinkPad (XGA 1024x768)"

This will only show you two modes and it won't think it's switching to an 800x600 source when the lid is closed.

Let me know if this works for you too because setting it to "not default to display" on lid never fixed it.

Thanks for the response. Your suggestion worked to a certain extent. As in, the delay is barely a split second now and that is much much better. However, the problem still exists...it would be awesome if I could get it to completely resolve. Any other suggestion? Thanks!

Actually just tried another option
I unchecked all of them except the first one and the last one(default factory lcd setting) and it works to perfection now! Thank dude~~

Glad to help! It was moving my icons all over the place to make the desktop smaller and it was aggravating me so I fought with it for a while and this worked for me. May be a better way but I can't imagine what since the "don't change on lid" or whatever didn't fix it.

Perhaps it's also worth trying out the latest version of the video driver from the Lenovo website:

I have this problem too (that's how I found this forum, via google).

I tried to do as above posters had, but still no luck. Opening the lid I wait a second or two (black screen), then it comes up low-res, then it goes back to the native resolution (1024x768).

The best I can sometimes do is get it to stay hi-res (the delay remains and the screen comes up hi-res then flicks off (switching modes anyway?) then comes up finally).

Any other thoughts? I have the latest driver from IBM, but Intel does have a later version on their site... I also emailed Intel to ask about this...

I had the same problem. I have my x60 setup to not go into standby or hibernate when the lid is shut and so all it does is shut the screen off?

Anyways, I noticed that when I would close it and reopen it the screen resolution would be 800x600. I ended up going into Fn-F7, selecting "Manage Schemes" and since the only display scheme I ever use is my normal display scheme, I unchecked all the boxes for the other schemes.

Now the only thing that happens is when I open up the screen it immediately turns on, flickers off for a second and then everything is normal.

I can't get this to fix in an acceptable manner. Even my cheapest, oldest, meanest laptops perform better in this regard. When I open my lid, the computer should (as it does with all other laptops I've used) come on instantly (no delay-- x60s delays a full second) and there should for sure be no resolution flicker (it goes lo-res then normal res, or if the second monitor settings stuck it goes on normal res, then flickers, then back to normal again).

If it flickers to lo-res, the gd computer even resizes open non-minimized windows and rearranges the desktop icons. This is unacceptable and I'm going to complain to IBM/lenovo. Also going to uninstall the Intel driver and will report if this had any good effect on this horrible annoyance.

OK, so I wasn't having the resolution shift problem before, just the 1 second flicker.

With the update, I still have the flicker and now it seems like it INCREASES the resolution and then goes to normal? Atleast it doesn't hang on the low resolution for a few seconds.

Problem should something between Presentation Director and Intel Driver.

If I uninstall the Intel Driver, everything works great, it didn't change my resolution to 800*600 while I close the lid or shut down the monitor.

Latest ThinkPad display driver still didn't fix my X60, I found an Intel driver (XP_1424, http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts ... bmit=Go%21) seems works better then ThinkPad driver, but it DIDN'T compatible with Presentation Director.

I guess the question is, "why do we need the intel driver?"

My only reason for wanting it would be impoved power management (ie superior battery length time).

I have been too busy, but will try uninstalling the intel driver soon.

As I recall, this was the only driver that the IBM software did not install automatically; was this intentional???

I have done this, but 6.14.10.4648 didn't solve anything in my case. I still have resolution shift problems.

Also, after installing 6.14.10.4648 I can only use 40 Hz and 50 Hz refresh rates on ThinkPad's LCD - no more 60 Hz... anyone have a clue why or knows how to fix this?

Meanwhile, I'm rolling back to previous driver version that shipped with my notebook, 6.14.10.4450.

This resolution shift is really annoying me... oddly enough, this is the first serious problem with various ThinkPads I had over the years.

I don't seem to have the resolution shift problem, but then I'm running in 16bit color. As for Intel video upgrade, I had the same problem as you: No 60 Hz with driver .4648. As you did, I rolled back to the driver shipped with the computer, .4450, and the 60 Hz returned. It is a problem for me, not just an issue, as the 50 Hz interfered with getting a DOS program to run in a VESA mode higher than 640x480. I read the change log prior to upgrading and no where does it mention that the 60 Hz refresh rate was dropped. By the way the refresh rate is treated in Power Manager, I suspect it may have been dropped to prolong battery life. Since the change is not mentioned in the log, I'm not certain who is responsible for the change: Intel or Lenovo.

Brief update - local service confirms that everything is fine with my machine, at least hardwarewise.

Furthermore, my X60s is not the only one affected - a couple of other ThinkPads (both X60 and X60s) in service have the same symptoms.

Hopefully Lenovo/Intel will address this issue(s) as soon as possible, either with a new Presentation Director or new drivers...

Display driver 6.14.10.4693 came out at last Friday, I installed it at once.

From the change log, they fixed the problem of icon rearrange when closng the lid.

Finally, they fixed the problem, it works great in my machine.

Alright, I'm re-opening up this topic since there isn't any standard way of fixing this problem. The new drivers provided by IBM do not work to perfection at all. All the tweaks and fixes help to a certain extent, but ultimately fail in fixing this problem. Anyone?
