I have been waiting since February for the dual core x61 tablet. I actually had an x41 tablet that I sold after a month. But I loved the tablet functionality, I am sketching a lot, for that, its just perfect.

So, what would you do? My x31 is aging. No news of x61Tablet.

I am actually considering HP TC4400, core duo 12" tablet. Looks like a thinkpad copy, almost all features seem to be available. Seems well built as well.

Any of you have tried it? Does it have that almost-thinkpad feel?

i too have heard that by thanksgiving we should be hearing news. i just want this thing before starting organic chemistry II in the spring semester haha.

Where do you get these information? From sales?
There was a thread here that sort of hinted at a mid September opening.

So has anyone with thinkpad-quality expectations had a look at that HP tablet?

i got my information from the guy who designed the X series, he was at CES at the private lenovo suite

I've considered them, but if I'm going to buy a non-ThinkPad I would lean toward something with higher resolution since I don't need a robust computer; I just prefer it.

Should be very nice...same close basic form as X41, but all the dual core power...and fast drives...

Plus...a neat feature...the hard drive protection system, which can see the orientation of the system, will adjust the screen orientation based on how you hold it...

Plus...some models have a 1400x1050 screen...

Should be quite nice. I would wait.

a million thanks! Now this made me drop my plans to get the HP. Will hang on to my still speedy x31 until Nov then

Do you have a source for this info? DevilsRejection and I were told with fairly high certainty that there wouldnt be a higher resolution X series since the business market doesnt have an interest in them.

I was also led to believe that there would not be an SXGA+ screen. I was looking at the M400's just because i would like a finer resolution. I'm getting pretty tired of waiting for this laptop as well. Original reports were saying May, but this is just getting ridiculous. I love everything about the Toshiba, but i wish that they could shed the optical drive and make the unit lighter and thinner.

Are you sure about this?

Official release date for X60 tablet is nov 7. Core duo and core 2 duo to be released together.

No T60P tablet with 14" display planned.

Not sure about max resolution displays yet.

there was a rumor around Feb due to an error posted on the site of a french reseller. just google for x6*tablet, you'll get that discussion. also as the x60 series came out, I was sort of expeting to have the tablet updated.

i am so so so happy, sucks the price of 2GB dimm's still cost so much, oh well i think 2 gigs (2x1GB) should be enough. maybe if i have some extra cash 3 gigs (2gbx1 + 1gbx1)

I'm sure Bill or any other trusted member on this site could ship you this product without an issue.

As for price ... I would say look at the X41 Tablet and you're looking at the same price points in my opinion.

So, other than the n! screen combinations, couldn't this have been released much earlier in the year? I'm still considering getting one, but I'm (perhaps unreasonably) disappointed. It seems like using it with Vista will be pretty disappointing as well.

a) no one knows how this will act with vista
b) lenovo isn't known for taking the newest in tech, slapping it together, then selling it. they go thru quality checks like a mofo
c) wait until vista rtm's before you knock how it will act on a GMA 950

Yes there will probably be an updated version next year based on santa rosa, if you want to wait for that then by all means do.

For what it's worth, I finally got around to putting in some playtime with one today, and the improvements over the X41t are impressive. The wait is almost over and the box is very sweet boys and girls. Just hold on a little while longer!

How is it compared with other tablets on the market? I hope we're not becoming like Apple fanboys, only comparing Lenovo products to previous Lenovo products, not to the wider market.

The specs look very impressive, apart from the possibly missing Core 2 Duo (I guess there won't be a non-s X60t model).

So, as a current X31 user, what would I lose by buying an X60s tablet rather than a "standard" X60? Are there good reasons not to buy a tablet?

my two cents:

I have been using an x31 and an x40tablet.

Good things are:
the tablet interface, and the very wide viewing angles, if you like drawing, taking notes with sketches (if i remember right you can search reasonable well in your English hand written text) a couple of people can talk around the screen while its lying on the desk... these can very very good. (I found it too heavy to use it as an e-book, holding it in the air)


Bad, or well, the trade-offs are:
it is consuming more power, and it is heavier. the x40 tablet, with standard battery was about the same weight as my x31, but had only half the battery time, around 2 hours.

its also head-heavy, and somehow less robust (like single plastic screen hinge instead of two massive metal hinges)

i think, if you make stuff on your pc that you need to discuss with other people, or if you do anything visual, its a great thing to have. If you don't, you might just be annoyed with the extra weight, battery life etc...

This experience comes from using the previous tablet model, so some things will be better now, but its most likely, that compared to a non tablet x60, you have to pay for the convertible functionality....

So to summarize ...

1. Battery life might be worse -- though with X60 vs X60 tablet, one would hope the difference would be fairly small. And starting from the eight hours on the X60, this should still be OK (at least with the eight-cell battery).

2. Weight will likely be more -- will have to wait for specs on this to see how big the impact is. X60 is quite light to start with, and I don't mind the weight of my X31, so that might be OK as well.

3. Cost is higher -- how much higher? I guess we'll find out soon.

4. The screen hinge design might compromise robustness -- and this is probably my biggest concern. How durable will the hing be? Is it really all plastic?

Thanks for the feedback, will have to evaluate the tradeoffs (including processor availability!) once Lenovo releases the X60s tablet.

P.S. One key point here is the rumoured available 1400x1050 resolution on the tablet -- if that's not available on the non-tablet X60, that may clinch the decision for me.

Why would it consume more power?
What are the specs of both of your machines?
If an X60 tablet has the same configuration as an non-tablet X60 (and the same battery), I don't see why it would consume more power. The digitizer might consume a little (not sure though), but that isn't even going to reduce the batterytime by half.

I also doubt it will be (much) heavier.
It might have to be reinforced somewhat more, but no way it's gonna be 1,5times as heavy.
