Hi guys,

I'm using a slim 4 cell battery on my x60s. If I get this 8 cell battery:

SKU: 40Y7003

Will it fit perfectly on my x60s? Do I have to get a dock in order for me to use it?

Yes, the 8 cel will fit perfectly in the slot where your 4 cel fits now, but being 8 cels rather than 4, it will protrude out beyond the back of your X60s.

Indeed, due to how uglily the 8-cell battery sticks out, many people regret buying it. When I purchased my X40, I specifically asked the seller to give me the 4-cell battery, even though the 8-cell one was actually the same price. These extended batteries also add a lot to the weight.

I regret buying the 8-cell battery, it stick out from the back of my X60 for about 1 inch, and is extremely ugly, not to mention it is also kind of loose, making me wonder if it's going to break off. It also adds more than 1 lb to an otherwise lightweight laptop. Unless you are constantly on the move with no reasonable possibility of finding an outlet, then get the 8-cell battery, otherwise don't bother.

I have both the slimline and the 8-cell for my X60s. I like them both. The slimline is extremely light, to the extent that I now feel I have to reconsider the other junk I lug around with me in order to not cancel out the lightness (ie I want a lighter bag, remove duplicate pages from the files I carry, etc). But I also like the 8-cell. First, the battery life is very useful, and allows me to do without carrying the charger, on many days. Second, it tilts the laptop up a bit, which is slightly more ergonomic. Third, the laptop feels cooler to the touch when running on AC when I have the 8-cell in (running on battery, it runs cool on either battery). I think this coolness is due to 2 things: 1) the 8-cell raises the whole laptop a bit so there's better airflow under the case; 2) the 8-cell blocks the fan intake at the rear left of the machine (where the cpu cooler is) forcing the airflow to go in at the front right of the machine and through the whole machine cooling everything, before exiting at the rear left -- I guess the idea is that on the slimline battery you want to only cool the CPU in order to save battery power, but on the 8-cell you can afford to cool the whole machine. Fourth, the battery sticking out at the back actually gives me a nice handle to hold onto if I'm walking around with the laptop in one hand and typing with the other hand -- you can do the same thing with the slimline, but it feels less secure. I've seen other people express the same sentiment on these forums.

I've not noticed any looseness of the 8-cell battery. Feels solid to me.

All of this may not be true on the X60. I only know how it works on the X60s.
