Power Manager gives me a hassle -- please help!

I have been setting up my new X60s for the last few days, just to watch excitement replaced by irritation.

Power Manager suddenly just refused to show me any power schemes, what to say of letting me create new ones. As a result, I have to manually turn the brightness down on battery and then up on AC.

When I press Fn-F3 to evoke power scheme list, it sarcastically says: "You are not authorized to display the panel for selecting a power scheme" -- and this it says to me, System Administrator!

I have uninstalled and installed back again all the drivers, utilities and their updates -- to no avail.

Any clues?

Besides, the finger sensor... hmm... gives me a finger by refusing to replace Ctrl-Alt-Del combination with a finger swipe on system powerup and wakeup. It used to, but then suddenly stopped. Does anybody have any suggestions?

And moreover, after partitioning my HDD I lost access to the Factory backup altogether. This was my last recourse, but I lost it, and am ready to accept condolences.

On a positive key, the machine runs very quiet and cool, lasts long on battery (I have BIOS 1.11) and seems quite well built.

Took my newly acquired 7 day old x60s to the local IBM service center for malfunctioning Power Manager. They discovered malfunctioning HDD and keyboard instead and are replacing them now.

So much for the praised IBM quality.

The manufacturer is Lenovo now not IBM.
IBM only provides the service, and was good enough to fix it for you.

You are right, I cannot complain about their service. That's why I went for ThinkPads int he first place, having to stay in India for a few years.

But it is a pity if now I indeed have to get used to the gap between IBM service and Lenovo quality.

For comparison, my two previous Fujitsu laptops (P2120 and P5020D) never gave me a single hardware problem in five year of heavy use, and even though their support in India might not be on par with IBM's, I never had to recourse to it anyway.

I wonder for how long IBM will continue servicing Lenovo products globally before handing it over to Lenovo itself? For many that would probably be a good time to rethink laptop brand preferences.

It was part of the purchase agreement. Actually, thinkpad quality began to slip, in my opinion, before the lenovo transaction, although the problems were with parts from the supply chain.

No complaints about the quality of my X60 however... so far it's definitely better than my T41 has been.
