Do you find that the text on your 12.1" XGA is comfortable to use/read?

Even for fairly long periods of time?

(I feel some eye strain from working with text/web on my X60, positioned on my lap, especially when i am tired or after a longer period of time).

Just wrote a 20 page proposal on mine...spent an entire week doing it for several hours a day. No probems here. My eyes get just as buggy staring at this screen for hours at a time as they did my old 15.4" notebook.

If I type while it's on my lap I get neck strain, but that's my own dumb fault for not being ergonomic.

Are you using ClearType? I find the display too jagged without it, but the text is a bit harsh with CT on. Still, I can and do use it for hours. On my lap when I'm lying down the computer rests on its front edge, which unfortunately tends to block the front vent slots.

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread, but you bring up a good point. Whenever the TP (and many other laptops) are not sitting on a hard flat surface - from a cooling standpoint there can be potential problems with the intake vents - and to a lessor extent the outflow vents being blocked, with the result a computer that will generate excessive heat.

A) There aren't ANY "vents" on the bottom of the unit.

B) Both the cooling inlet and exhaust are on the SIDE.

Umm, on the bottom of my X60s at the far right front edge there is a line of air intake slots. When covered, the APS temp goes up. The two latch ports on the bottom also admit quite a bit of air. Try blowing into them and watch the APS and CPU temps fall. (There are other slots on the bottom right about 1/4 of the way back, but they are not covered when I balance the computer on its front edge on my lap).

The exhaust is clearly on the left side, but I don't see the inlet you mention...

What are all of those tiny, rectangular holes on the bottom of the machine for anyway if not air intake...aesthetics?

Maybe I shouldn't say anything since I don't have an X60, but on my T42 those holes are for the speakers.........

I believe the speaker is in the center of the bottom (#20 on the diagram you linked). Does the X60s have stereo?

The slots on the left side of smvp6459's image of the bottom seem to be vents.

I use my laptop as my primary computer, and I went from the 14.1" SXGA+ on my T43 to the 12" XGA on my X60. Size really isnt a problem imo, its the resolution. I like having more screen real estate. Ill go for a 12" SXGA+ if Lenovo ever releases one.

What are you comparing too? What is the point? The Screen size or flexview?

As far as screen size is concerned, I am pretty comfortible with the 12 inch screen. Bigger is better but with a price--weight. For me, I use my x41 as a main workhorse. My eyes are as good as before.

I do not own an X60, but I think it is pretty similar.

in order to have a good and comfortable long period text reading,
sitting posture towards the screen is very important.

the best posture when reading on the 12' text is sat perpendiculary to the screen.

That would be great for pictures, but text in some cases would be even worse than is UXGA on 15"

Well, with the X60 you're looking at a 12" screen. What size screen does your "T" have?

I too wish my X40 had more pixels, though 12" SXGA+ would make the text too small. I think SXGA (1280 X 1024) or QVGA (1280 X 960) would probably be ideal.

in fact i find that the font size is about the same as T series SXGA+ fonts.
