X60s Usability w/EVDO
X60s Usability w/EVDO
The Lenovo ThinkPad X60s is so easy to tote that I can’t imagine not going anywhere with out it. More importantly, its basic feature set is so robust that if I were still working and had other employees who traveled a lot, I’d recommend that this notebook as a corporate standard for my road warriors
It’s the communications options, basic configuration, reliable performance, rock solid construction and extreme portability that makes the ThinkPad X60s pop out heads and shoulders above ultra portable notebooks made by other manufacturers. Anecdotally while stuck in Portland trying to get a standby seat home to San Diego, I noticed five other travelers in Unity’s Red Carpet Club, using X60s notebooks with integrated EvDo transceivers.

Let’s see, a lightweight notebook with great battery life and a “hibernate” mode that works almost every time and a variety of connection options that ensure I can get on Internet from almost anywhere I go.
Want my ThinkPad X60s? You're gonna have to pry it “From My Cold Dead hands!”

I used to use the T series, but much prefer the X60s as is also written up in this two blog posts.

It is indeed an amazing machine, and no doubt the best I ever owned. Well worth the extra money (I even got mine on sale for $700 off retail). The Thinkpad is the Porsche of computers - There is no substitute. There may be flashier or faster systems out there, but when it comes down to it, the Thinkpad gets the job done with perfection. The X60s is the best Thinkpad, I think, since way back in the Pentium 2 days.

wow $80 monthly for evdo? plus another $40 or so for wifi.
Luckily I got mine from IBM Corp and they pay all the bills.
IBM Corp standardized on adopting the X60 (and the T60) for internal use rather than the X60s.

$60/month for EVDO for two year contract. I don't bother with other wireless as the EVDO generally has very good performance. Basically, a Starbuck's coffee a day for wireless access everywhere. Getting 770 kbits/sec download at Starbucks.

Well, it happens that I have broadband at home. But, some people pay T-mobile $40/month for wireless access which is available at many hotspots including lots of Starbucks. I don't need to do that.

Absolutely not. Unlocking isn't what you want anyways -- it is not a GSM device. Sprint absolutely will not allow a non sprint ESN on their network. If you could somehow edit the ESN on the card to that of a real Sprint card that would work, but that is illegal, and I haven't heard of anyone actually doing itbrosen wrote:It is possible to UNLOCK the WWAN Card to use Sprint ?, thanksSkiBunny wrote:wow $80 monthly for evdo? plus another $40 or so for wifi.
