I am a happy x40 owner looking to upgrade to an x60s.

Is this the time or should I hold out a bit?

In particular:
1. will the x60s get a the core 2 duo soon?
2. has the Intel wireless problem posted here been resolved?
Lenovo's ordering site now puts the Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN as the standard and Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Wireless as optional. Is this chip good? What happened to the Atheros?
3. (perhaps related) has the hot right palm rest problem been resolved?

Another question, this time I want 100G HD (I have been suffering with 40G). Is the 7200rpm noticeably better? Does it affect battery life?

i think the "Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wi-Fi wireless LAN" is the same thing as the atheros cared you are talking about.. atheros makes the thinkpad 11a/b/g card

1. Core 2 Duo is available now. More models might be available soon. Might make sense to get the 2 GHz model in that it has 4 MB cache instead of 2 of lower units. But there are several pre-built units available with lower than 2 GHz processors.
2. There is an a/b/g and n card. n is the new standard that you may want to use during the life of the laptop.
3. You will have a noticeable improvement with the standard 5400 RPM drive over your current drive. 7200 will not take much more power, but not clear you need it.

Both c2d and the wireless with "n" seem only available on the "x60", no the "x60s" which I was more inclined to get (coming from an x40 not X30 as I am). At least on Lenovo's site

that is all I can find.

In terms of the processor, I think I read here that the problem is that the x60s runs a LV (low voltage? I don't know what that is) chip and that that isn't out yet in core 2 duo. I have no idea why they don't offer a card with the n standard for the x60s but they do on the x60.

Also, what about the heating palm-rest issue, has it been resolved?

I have an X60s but am purchasing an X60. Not clear there is much of a difference between the two. The 'LV' Core 2 Duo chips are not due to be out for awhile.

Also, if you ever want to run Mac OS X, you're going to need the Atheros (Thinkpad) card to get wireless working.

If I understand the Low Voltage chips correctly, they throttle down to a slower speed when not in use, and that is where you save in battery life. Some users are claiming up to 8 hours battery life with the 8-cell battery on the X60s, and about 6.5 hours running SUSE Linux with the same configuration.
