Oh, No. I dropped my X60s today

On my way to school, I was so hurry that I forgot to zip up my backpack. As soon as I got off the car, well, the X60s dropped out of my backpack. Luckily, there's no functional problem, but there's some serious cosmetic damages to the X60s.

How much would it cost to replace those damaged parts? I don't even know the names of the parts. I don't have the Lenovo Accident Coverage, but my credit card company is going to cover upto $ 500, as it's less than 90 days.

Can you guys give me some ideas about the repair cost? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Pictures are in the following link.

Man, that's a bummer. :(

If you want to know the price of the parts, see link below for the part numbers, and enter the Service part number (FRU) in the Purchase parts online link at the bottom of the page. Click on the links at the top of the page for other parts, including the display lid parts.

Thanks for kind words and for the great information. Is it better to send the machine directly to Lenovo? How does non-warranty repair work at Lenovo? Thank you.

My sympathy.

I think you better send it in for service. Being a new model, you can hardly get a used part.

I do not think it will cost legs and arms. If you talk sweet, they might be able to eat the cost for you.

Sleeve...

All of that, then IMMEDIATELY order a sleeve from www.sfbags.com ...preferably with a top flap so you completely cover the machine.

$30 would have probably saved you all the trouble...

Good luck with the repairs!!

I agree with getting the Waterfield sleeve from sfbags.com. I just got the 22-18 for my X60s with 8-cell battery and it fits like a charm. Very well made sleeve. Sorry to hear about your lappy, though. Ouch.
good luck,
Traci

Just ordered Waterfield sleeve. It looks awesome. How long does it generally take to ship the laptop and get it back from Lenovo?

I know when I got something done with warranty they shipped the box next day and shipped me my unit back next day

This thread make me cringe... OUCH!!!

Luckily no other damages other than some cosmetic damages...

Go get a notebook slipcase complete with it\'s own sling. Should cost around SGD:$14.00~~~USD$7.00-8.00

;-)

Not nice to rub it in. You never know what can happen and can't protect against everything. Sorry it happened.

What difference does it make anyhow? Show it off like a badge of courage (or, in this case, durability). You know, like how a cast on your arm is cool. If it still works, why bother making it pretty again? It's a ThinkPad. Display the damage with pride.

Lenovo repaired the thinkpad without any charge. According to the rep, all plastic parts can be replaced without any charge, although the damages come from accidental drops. :D

It is nice that they replace damaged plastic parts for free -- and it is not so nice that the machine has so many plastic parts. When I bought it I was under the impression that the x60 chassis was made of a metal alloy. :(

The chassis is made of a magnesium alloy. Replaceable plastic parts fit over that.

Did they also cover the labor cost to rebuild your
laptop ? I would imagine the plastic parts are fairly cheap
and the time and labor to disassemble and rebuild the X60
would be costly.

It's not that unusual for parts to be covered under warranty
but the labor involved to change them up to the owner.

Wow, that is customer service which creates loyalty.

Cost for shipping
Cost for labor
Cost for material

all for free, niiiice ;)

This is my story:

I happened to drop my x60s and it developed a crack on the bezel across the vents.

I placed a call and then took it into an IBM/Lenovo local service center.

The receptionist was kind of sceptical at first saying they would probably have to give me a quotation. But when I expressed mild surprise at this, saying that Fujitsu would service such problems for free (which is true), she went out and came right back saying they would order the replacement part and fix it for free too. :)

When the part arrived in a couple of weeks, I went there again with the machine, and they took 10 minutes to replace the bezel with a new one.

In general, IBM/Lenovo service staff here in India are nice and professional people with a definite humane trait to them too. It is a pleasure dealing with them.

Kudos to IBM service, but it pays to pester sometimes.

I wanted to changed my R52 thinkpad\'s damaged keyboard caused by one of the service centre tech and the lenovo/ibm people in singapore (1800-3172-888) wanted me to bring the laptop down to them to allow them to inspect the damage and wanted to charge me for my Alps made in thailand keyboard...

I told them that people from te USA stated that they can get keyboard replacement for free with keyboard delivered to them without the need to bring the laptop down to IBM/Lenovo for them to inspect the damage...! Guess what they told me??? They said Lenovo/IBM in asia is different from ibm/lenovo USA... :x

Life is different in singapore than the rest of the world. I have always tried to say that stuff too for many other equipment and i never get it replaced for free. so its either the rules are way too strict here or we just aren't good persuaders.
