I personally don't see the attractions in touch screens, writing by hand takes longer than typing. Unless of course you're utterly crap at typing, in which case, learn to type better,

there are many other things you can do with a tablet. I am a touch typist myself, would never enter long text with the pen, but its not really what its designed for, or well, its not the reason why i will get one

I was looking up DPI values when responding to another thread, and found these:

12.1" XGA (i.e. regular X series): 105.8 DPI
12.1" SXGA+ (i.e. X60 tablet hi res option): 144.6 DPI

To get a sense a of how dense that is, the smallest text I have seen on a laptop screen is the 147.0 DPI of my 15.4" WUXGA Dell Inspiron 6000, and it's not easy to see such small text. The SXGA+ X60 tablet will be barely better. Many people on this forum have complained about the small text on a 15" UXGA screen (133.3 DPI), which is already much bigger than what one will get on the X60 tablet's SXGA+ screen.

It's up indeed, but rather disappointing that you cannot get more than 1.5GB RAM unless you use a slower type of RAM. Anything up to 1.5GB you get PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz , but once you configure more than 1.5GB , it only offers PC2-4200 DDR2 SDRAM 533MHz.

Another downer is that they stopped offering Utimaco Safedisc Easy with the X60t.

On second thought, they no longer seem to offer it on T60 or any other product either.

It's getting less attractive the longer I look at it.

If you are a user who uses his tablet in the field while walking around and have the software set up correctly, the touch screen is as good as it gots. Our company has been using X41 tablets and am looking forward to the arrival of our 63668KU. We are hoping it will be a little more responsive

In 2GB case, can we configure 2 chips of 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM (1GB x 2) same as X60/s?

You should check the service manuals, but I don't see any reason why you can't install the memory yourself even if you can't configure the machine with the memory you want. I can't imagine why Lenovo would put a ceiling on the amount of memory in the tablet but not in the X60/s.

I checked a document,
X60 Tablet release document (ENUS106-818.PDF)
says;

Memory: Standard 512 MB or standard 1 GB (1 of 1024 MB or 2 of 512 MB) or 2 GB (2 of 1024 MB)ThinkPad PC2-5300 DDR2 667 MHz memory,
expandable with optional SDRAM SO DIMM module to a maximum 4 GB
The maximum configurable memory is 4 GB; however,the maximum memory addressable
by Windows applications is limited to 3 GB in current 32-bit computing architecture.

So we can expect 667MHz operation in 2GB when 2 of 1GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SO DIMM are configured in X60 Tablet.
But in Lenovo web, we can not customize such configuration(no choice as of 12/5/2006)

Lenovo is a bit off on this: the addressable memory is limited to 3 GB, regardless of whether you use a 32-bit or 64-bit OS, and whether you use Windows or any other OS. The Napa chipset has a 4 GB limit, and the ThinkPad implementation loses the top 1 GB of that.

Did anyone in this forum receive one yet? or do they have an idea on when the thing will ship? I read a post that someone had ordered one....

FWIW they quote a delivery ETA of 15 days. What's cooled me off is the fact that you cannot have fast RAM if you put more than 1.5GB into the machine and that they are no longer offering Utimaco SafeDisc Easy Whole Disk Encryption as an option.

I put an order in on the 30th of November for a SXGA+ CTO, and a few days later the order status said it will be delivered on December 15th.

I have since asked them to cancel the order but haven't heard back as yet.

Then you'll want to buy from an online store which has the faster memory. And you'll have to weigh the cost of fast 2GB SODIMMs vs. the performance penalty for asymmetric memory: GBM forum

Two quick questions about the screen.

1) Is there any estimate how much more battery the svga will consume?

2) What kind of wacom technology are they using? Will it behave like the Cintiq for photoshop painting?

I think Lenovo is slipping on their ship dates.

My (xga) was supposed to ship on Dec 6th, but I received a notice stating that it is delayed and won't ship until Dec. 18th! :-(

I have a second model (sxga) on order that is supposed to ship Dec 18. Goodness knows when that will be shipped.

Actually, the first xga order was supposed to be cancelled because they screwed up my order and put xga instead of sxga, but they *cannot* stop an order once it goes to the.. where ever it goes! I've tried several times, but they just tell me to ship it back once received!. The rep said they can't pull it off the line once it's ready to go... Which is odd, because it isn't really ready to go at all...

Am I missing something / looking in the wrong spot or is it true that right now the Multitouch X60t have the 802.11 a/b/g/n option, but only a 60GB 5400 rpm HDD with no option to order a different HDD, whereas the X60t without multitouch has no 802.11 a/b/g/n option, but you CAN choose a decent HDD like 100GB 7200 rpm ?

Why do options keep disappearing and reappearing? Every 12 hours I can visit their online store and get a new/different list of options.

Lenovo overview of the X60T

63666au is available in the Channel now, just in case anyone wants a minor upgrade from x41t.

63668KU arrived yesterday. All software applied with no problems. MUCH MORE processing power than the old X41 tablets. Refreshing to have the horsepower to run applications at normal speeds. No waiting.

Am really enjoying the tablet. Can not believe what a difference the power makes. Peforms as well as my T43p most the time. Goodbye T43p AND X41

one of the tablet users, can you pls tell me the size of the rear end that is sticking out of the tablet? i have attached a photo for reference. the tablet is supposed to be 9.6" deep, but the real display is about an inch shorter, or? photo can be found on www.syed.at/thinkpad-tablet.JPG

My tablet is at home (i'm at college), but I think that is the 8 cell battery sticking out the back, isn't it?

Yes, it is.

It provides a nice grip with rubber sections top and bottom. One could also get the 4-cell battery.

could one of you measure the depth of that extended part and also share with me, if it is for a 8 cell or a 4 cell?

I only have the 8-cell. It seems to extend very approximately 3.3cm or 1 5/16".
