Got the X60S, First Impression

Got the X60S and I would like offer my impression.

First, I thought the X60S might look ugly due to the non-round corners of the mouse keys and the ThinkVantages keys. It turns out that it is not bad at all (actually, I saw this machine in my friend's place before my purchase). However, I really wish they use the same mouse design--round corners please and use red strip please.

Second, the built quality is really. Now that I have my own X60S, I can somehow "bend it' and do all sorts of "tortures". I would say it is at least as sturdy my former X41 and X40.

Thirdly, the performance gain is not that significant over X41 (1.5G with 1.25G memory). Notice that now I have 2G memory. Well, at least I got the option to upgrade my hard drive to a much larger hard drive.

As to the keyboard, it is crappier than my X41. My wife has X31 and I know my X41 has crappier keyboard than that of the X31. But this X60s has even crappier keyboard.

And Yes, all my X40, X41, X31 and X60s got NMB keyboard. I double-checked. The keyboard is the only setback, I would say. For those whose type a lot and has no need for a larger hard drive, get X31 or X41, or even X24. You got my word.

Overall, I am pretty satisfied. Lenovo has gained my trust.

I had the X41 Tablet before my X60s and at least to me, there is a significant performance increase. The keyboard I have feels great to me as have all of my Thinkpad keyboard.

I am currently typing from a resturaunt and have been using wireless on battery at 1/2 brightness since 9:30 AM and it is now 1:50 PM. Still 2:42 hours left. Good reason to have the X60s even if all you do is type, browse, and email.

Plus, in my case, I am using that built-in Verizon EVDO at the cost of a Starbuck's a day ($2/day).

I recommend that you borrow a vaio sz for two weeks.
You'll love the x60s keyboard after that.
I certainly do :D

LOL, I am complaining it. Compared to other brands, I still love thinkpads. no doubt. But I wish the keyboard will be a little better. Or least as good as previous x31 series.

dfumento, I am surprised. Unbelievable. My model has a 4 cell. I have not tested it yet. Currently it has 3 cycles and lasts about 2 hours with normal use.

I was running with 3 bars brightness. Are you running with full (7 bars) brightness?

A solution to the no red strips problem is to buy a small tub of solvent based red paint, and stick some on :P
