right now im trying to sell off my t43 w/ resolution of 1400x1050
this is really comfortable for my eyes.

since the 12in screen and integrated graphics only lets you get 1024x768 on the x60s, how does that look? is it ginormous? does it make your work space seem smaller?

Your 15.0" SXGA+ display is about 115 dpi, while the X series 12.1" XGA is about 106 dpi. The end result is that without tweaking font sizes etc, things will look about 9% smaller on the screen.

And, yes, there is less workspace. But, as a rule, if you ask almost any X series owner, it's pretty easy to adjust to it for almost any application.

P.S. That's a big change from a 15" T43 to an X60!

I'm an resolution-freak and going to the x60s my main concern was the resolution. I do think it's the weakest link (the tablet version do offer a higher resolution - which I truly envy).

Most applications do work quite well with 1024x768, however you won't be having multiple windows at the same time as you do (atleast I do) with high-resoltion displays.

Some things doesn't work just as well though.
Photo-editing and programming is a bit cramped but I do think it's worth it.

If you wan't to see how much you can fit into 1024x768 just change the resolution of your T43 (or any other monitor) to that resolution. Things will be a bit blurry but you will see how much you can fit there anyway.

Exactly. When I'm out of the office and working on the XGA panel, I run most apps maximized, and things are OK, even Photoshop, although more resolution would always be nice. When I'm in the office (and using my 1600x1200 external monitor) I run overlapping windows for the most part, switching to full-screen mainly for Project.

alright so i set my res to 1024x768 but it looks HUGE, i guess with the smaller lcd on the x60s it should look about the same as my t43 res.

unless im wrong?

About the same, yes. XGA on a 15" screen is definitely huge.

i quite like the resolution on the x60s. Im workin with dual monitors x60s + 17" 1280*1024 when at home, and in that setup, the x60s 12" prooves to be more useful than my 14" 1400*1050 T40p is, cause its easier to read when im not directly in front of it (due to ext. keyboard) .
I guess compared to a 15" the size should be rougly the same. Slightly bigger on the x60s, i guess.

Im sceptical about sxga+ on a 12". Widescreen 1200*8xx would be alright i guess, but then, i personally don't really gain much with a widescreen over xga (been using a 13.3" for a few weeks).

Might be just me, but I'd highly suggest using the Ultrabase and docking with an external monitor. That way you won't have to compromise on screen space unless you're on the go.

Or just use the built-in VGA port on the laptop.

I've had the 15" SXGA+ IPS FlexView T43 266892U, and now I have the X60 170997U.
I *despise* the screen on the X60 (and i got the "best" samsung screen, others are worse!)
Fortunately, i get a new machine every year from ibm, so the x60 will be replaced by a new T61 early next year. YAY

I would NOT buy an X without having first used it, or make sure you can return it.

But for the screen (which is a HUGE "but"), the X60 is superb. Much better quality than the T43.

oh wow im excited about getting the x60s, hopefully i will be able to get my darned t43 sold off sooooon!

I sold my T42 1400x1050 and am now a VERY happy X60s user. When I am in the office i simply switch to ext. display, but when i am on the go (often) it's sooo much lighter than the 15" T42 I owned.
I am curious though, how will 1400x1050 res. look like on the 12" screen. It might be too small for me (for reading etc.).

you can't get 1400x1050 on the x60/s.
Do the math; the dpi would be horriblly small for a lot of reading, at least for me.
I already find my 12" samsung XGA screen to be pretty bad (too small!).

The X60 tablet will have an SXGA+ option. I too think it would make the text too small.

i guess it would be harder to read with a sxga display
