jamse, seems you have one of the few models with the extralight lcd. I have one on order myself so I cannot confirm if it has the same issue. I did have a Dell once, that suffered from Light leakage and hopefully this screen isn't of the same quality. I don't think it was the actual lcd that caused this, but the inverter used for it. If possible, could you take pics of it with a black background up.
Thanks

Yes, some light leakage is normal. Backlighting is not setup and I wouldn't listen to what a tech says to be accurate, I'm one myself. None of our work T series exhibits these issues. The Dell I had glowed half way up the screen which showed how inferior the lcd/inverter was. My sony's screen is as bright as the sun and has no light issues. That's why I'd like to see pictures for myself and make the determination if it's "normal".

Ah, I forgot that there are two kinds of X60s displays. I told the OP last week that my X60s doesn't have this issue, but my X60s has the conventional (i.e. heavier and dimmer) screen.tallman wrote:jamse, seems you have one of the few models with the extralight lcd.

Thanks for the photos. My X60s definitely doesn't have this problem.

Thanks Jamse. Is that bottom picture taken straight on or angled? The pics may be falsely magnifying your problem, but if the pics do show what your screen actually looks like, that's pretty bad. I'm sure you won't be working with a black background but you seemed to have noticed it enough to ask. If it's distracting you, I'd call Lenovo. My gf's will be here Thursday and will let you know what it looks like.
Model 1702-7CU, which should be the samd UL lcd as yours.

Sorry, Pianowizard, I do not have a camera on me here. However, I doubt it would have done a good job even if i had one.pianowizard wrote:If possible, please show us a photo.madana wrote:Do you think it qualifies for a replacement?

Not true; actually, your pictures show a perfectly normal Ultralight XGA screen. All the UL XGA screens are exactly like yours -- the "light leakage" at the bottom of all those screens is exactly the same as on yours, and it is the result of how the back light was designed to fit in those panels ... Think of it as a feature, not a problem!jamse wrote:so not normal
sorry for the lateness, just busy. Anyway, did spend some time focusing on the screen and I've found no issues. It does show bottom light looking down from above, but as you move into a "heads on" view, it's fine. This is with the highest brightness and a black background. It does have a poor vertical viewing distance, but looking at the reviews for a standard x60 screen, they all appear that way. I give the UL screen a thumbs up.
If it helps, the part # of my lcd is 13N7091 with a fru of 13N7092, which I believe is a Toshba. I don't currently have a camera, but if pics would help anyone wanting to make a decison, let me know.
