DEMO X60T....SXGA+...6366-AJU...DELIVERED...PROS AND CONS...

#1 Post by draco2527 » Fri Dec 22, 2006 2:45 am

EDIT:

Today I received the tablet, so far not many -'s

Here are some positive comments, some in comparison to the X41T:

HDD has some form of shock protection

Unit is much more responsive than the X41T

NO HD CLICKING...I can't even hear the fan running...really quiet with ambient noise...I can ALWAYS hear the X41T clicking away

Brick was never a drag when compared with some of the other manufacturers AC BRICKS...but the 20V 65W is SMALL..barely takes up any room A++

NO DEAD OR STUCK pixels...something that has been a problem in a few of my ThinkPad's with high res displays...out of the 1000's of Dell's that I have seen with high res displays, I can count in one hand the ones that had dead or stuck pixels...

Pen has an eraser!! For the X41T I purchased an executive cross pen for Wacom Tablets that set me back $50+..nice addition to the OEM pen...overall MUCH better than the Fujitsu or Toshiba... plus it has the rubber coating

Awesome Job on the Dock/port replicator..yet not sure what the parallel port is doing back there...SERIAL I still use ;) so no complains there...I hate using the USB to serial dongle...on laptops that do not have a serial port..

Some of the negatives:

When you pay $$ for a laptop WITH DOCK you would imagine you will get TWO ac bricks...Dell will give you 2, HP will also...yet Lenovo gives you ONE!! ...so now I have to run around with one AC adapter until I pick up a second one...

LCD is "looser" than on the X41T I can "rock it" when in "laptop mode" with little if any effort...again..NOT THE CASE with the X41 T

The power button "bezel" is not only CHEAP looking but CHEAP overall...every time I press the power button the bezel flexes like it was a piece of paper..

Ultranav buttons are crap...any cheaper and they would fall off...palmrest also feels like cheap plastic...

Keyboard, like the X41T has some funtions that are not used, like the ThinkLight.

The COA still has no "protective film" on the X41T I wore it out in a matter of weeks (hand is on it all the time, when holding in tablet mode) Since I figured this will be a problem here as well, I covered it as soon as I had it out of the box; with some clear tape.

89 processes running...COME ON...plus Google desktop and IE Google search plug-in as well....and a trial version of Symantec AV, firewall and some other cr*p I removed (related to Symantec)

AND for the DIE HARD fans of the IBM ThinkPad logo...

The IBM ThinkPad logo is on the palm rest and cover; yet on the LCD bezel it is labeled "lenovo X60". Also the BIOS splash screen is 100% lenovo

Overall I can say I am pleased...but sad that they made some huge moves forward and some in the opposite direction...I was expecting all +'s and 1 if ANY -'s

I guess he didn't order from Lenovo, but instead from a reseller who preordered before any consumer.

A valuable lesson to keep in mind for the next hot computer.

Yep. plus my rep worked with Lenovo DIRECTLY and they (reseller) do tons of business direct so like anything else $$$ talks...

BUT...Lenovo only approved the demo for 30 days

Lenovo Blogs
"To address those concerned about the specific fate of SXGA+ orders: tablet models with SXGA+ screens will begin shipping after January 20th."

The dates are close enough that it seems plausible you'll be getting a demo unit before those who actually ordered systems ~2 months ago will get theirs.

Thanks for the update. Maybe Lenovo isn't trying to completely infuriate its actual customers by shipping demo units first.

Well....so far we are on schedule, my rep will contact Lenovo on Thurday (since they have not changed the date) to make sure I will be getting it this weekend. So far it is a keeper so I got a quote for ThinkPad protection and 3 year on-site service!

I am a little worried since the X41T might be a "snail" compared to what this new tablet can do...will keep you all posted!

so much for that idea. Still plenty of people who ordered in the first week of December and still no word.

Keep up the hope, worth the wait!! Can't be that much longer...mine was manufactured 01/27/2007 with the AC adapter having a date of 12/2006.

Congrats on finally getting the unit, Draco!

Several questions:

(1) How is the screen quality overall? Compared to a standard laptop screen, compared to the X41T screen and compared to a Flexview screen, if possible.

(2) I understand that the unit is significantly heavier than the X41T. Is it noticeable? Is it bothering? Can you measure exact weight with the 8-cell battery?

(3) How's the battery life?

Thanks!

1- I think the screen is OK (as far as brightness) for everyday viewing indoors. The viewing angle is as good as on the X41 T. Outdoors, unless you get the indoor/outdoor lcd it will not be viewable...no way to confirm since there is no bright sunlight in MI this time of year.

2- I only have 4-cell batteries for the X41 T, so can't compare apples to apples! I think the X60 T is not heavy or bulky even with the 8 cell. I will try to get exact weight from the digital scale at work

3- I think it is good! LCD at 50%, WiFi on and proc at ~998mhz I got about 4hrs.

Go figure, your higher resolution screen has not dead pixels but my XGA does :( I think I found 3, with one red stuck pixel near the middle that is kind of annoying.

Well...1 big one they should fix...

When plugged in...and used in tablet mode (portrait), the friking ac connector is a PITA!

They should have placed it on the other side...
